IN THE BIOS SET THE FIRST BOOT DEVICE TO CD ROM AND DISABLE ALL DRIVES AND OPTIONS OF BOOT. BOOT FROM THE CD ROM USING THE WINDOWS CD AND GO FOR A FRESH INSTALLATION. REMEMBER ALL THE DATA WILL BE LOST. OR YOU HAVE TO TAKE IT TO A TECHNICIAN TO GET A REMEDY. REGARDS. PLZ. DON'T FORGET TO RATE ME
well technically speaking if you have the windows XP installation cd then you should have another cd called Driver Software! if not then go to http://www.driverskit.com/ and that will allow you to download the needed drivers... however i would recommend before installing windows XP that you download the drivers first and put them on a flash drive or Cd-R or DVD-R first then commence with the installation of windows XP
Are you getting an error message saying "CD drive cannot be found"? If so, check the cable connected to your pc or swap that drive with a working cd drive.
Afterward, you have to enter the BIOS and change the BOOT order. Make the CD drive the first boot device and the HDD your second boot device. If the CD is a valid BOOTABLE Windows OS CD you will see the following option directly after the bios loads: "Press any key to boot from cd...."
Please remember that the OS CD only has the Windows Operating Software and will not provide you with the necessary drivers to run all the hardware on your PC. If it is not the original OS cd that came with your system don't even bother as you will have activate windows within 30 days and may not even allow you to enter the OS once installed until windows is activated.
The green or purple Dell CD's will boot on that system with no problem and it will not even ask you for the keys as it is a Dell OEM Windows OS CD. If you try an official Windows XP OS CD you must have the keys for it.
In order to format and install operating system again you need a dos bootable floppy or cd to format.... Best solution is that try windows xp or windows vista bootable cd ,it will format your hardd drive and also will install the operating system.... Good Luck. ------------------------------------------- Please let me know your feed-back.
