here is your solution, you have a bilingual keyboard language installed or two or more different languages installed and when you press left alt and left shift it cycles through them you can go into your keyboard settings and change the languages if you want this to stop happening or just press those keys a few times to get it back to normal....

PS: some french characters need you to press the right alt(or alt car) and the key... hope i helped now back to hacking wow actually how i figured this out... don't ask...

How do I get into safemode on my acer aspire desktop

1 Restart the Acer Aspire netbook by pressing the "power" button on the netbook's keyboard or by pressing the "CTRL," "ALT" and "DEL" keys at the same time. 2 During startup, hold down the "F8" function key immediately when you see the "Acer" splash screen and the option for entering "Setup." 3 Keep pressing the "F8" key until the "Advanced Boot Options" menu appears. If you receive a "keyboard error," restart the Acer Aspire and repeat step 2. 4 Use the arrow keys to navigate to the "Safe Mode" selection on the "Advanced Boot Options" menu. The arrow keys are located on the right-hand side of the Acer Aspire keyboard. 5 Press the "Enter" key to execute the "Safe Mode" selection. The Windows operating system will now start in "Safe Mode" and you can perform a system restore or make needed changes to get your Acer Aspire to boot normally again. How do I shift from these stupid green characters to the white standard characters on my Acer Aspire One keyboard?

This is not a solution, but it seem ACER introduced these special characters which can be switched by a combination of keystrokes they have not documented. These keystrokes can be pressed by accident and since they are not documented the only way to return to the normal keyboard is rebooting.
ACER seems not to care as I have sent at least 5 emails requesting a solution as well a solution to another annoying problem but I never received a response.
For sure I will never buy (I have 3 Acer Laptops) another ACER machine.

Check your regional settings in the controll pannel. Your keyboard is probably set for "Canadian French"

By default it should just be set to US.
