If the laser is not dirty then it's probobly worn so will only play disc's if brand new.
You could get it fixed but would cost between $50 and $100

It freezes while playing dvd's about every ten minutes. It does allow you to skip forward and continue playing but makes you skip an entire chapter. What causes it to freeze?

Mt SD-1800 does the same thing, plays for awhile and then gets stuck. I took it apart and cleaned the rails and the optical lens but no help. I noticed that the head did not slide back and forth without cogging. It turns out that the little pinion gear on the motor was cracked. Every revolution it would catch on the tooth by the crack. I doubt that there are replacement parts available.

I have a panasonic RV26 DVD player. After inserting DVD it goes to the reading mode (normal) but it stays on the reading mode for awhile then code H02 shows and then stops and and will not accept any other...

The Optical head or the mother board is defective. The data is not received and so the Mp is not able to read or process.
hence if have cleaned the optical head lens, and there is no reading try to put in a audio cd to test. If the cd is read the head must be Ok and the DVD processing must be faulty possible board issue but if there is no reading then the optica head is faulty

Dvds keep skipping

It is possible that your portable set has a defective optical head and so does not read properly the cds. Hence it will be good if you cna get the optical head changed provided the cost if effective. the unit has to be changed with precaution because any static damage to the new head can be serious. hence if you are not familiar get help to install the new head . Hope you try. Good day

All DVD's skip at the same location. Why?

The tip posted has nothing to do with the problem at hand. Let me try to describe what is likely to be the problem here.

The optics assembly rides on a metal rail that keeps it evenly spaced from teh disc surface. The optics are moved along the disc in 2 ways:
1) gross movement is made by a small motor.
2) fine movement is made by alight movement of the lens itself.

Given your description, I would first look for debris in the gears that drive the optics assembly along the rail. In many cases, small amounts of dirt that accumulate in the grease over time will cause the optics sled to stick a little. The symptom for this is often skipping. This happens because when the motor attempts to move the sled and it can't, the driver IC will increase the voltage a bit to give the motor more power. Once the obstruction is overcome, the sled tends to move too much resulting in skipped data.

If you can gain access to the optics assembly, clean the rail using a DRY cotton swab being careful not to leave any fibers on the rail. Also check the gear for any fibers or grains of dirt. I usually use a dental pick to check each tooth. Please note that you may not see any obstruction on the gears as they have grease on them. Using the pick, you can often feel the obstruction.

Hope this helps. Please keep us informed about your progress.

Describe your RCA Audio Shelf System Problem

If you have cleaned the CD lens using a cotton swab and alcohol and it continues to skip, try cleaning the rails that the optics assembly rides on using a clean cotton swab. Sometimes the grease on the rail gets contaminated with dust and that causes the optics assembly to stick a bit. The motor that moves the optics assembly will generate more torque and when the optics finally move, they overshoot the target position. This results in a loss of information that you hear as a skip.

If neither suggestion works, please update this and we'll try another option.

If your CD/DVD player is skipping some songs then you need to:

1) Clean the CD to ensure that any smudges/finger marks are 'gently' cleaned using a suitable cleaning cloth (eg. spectacles cloth)
2) Check for Physical defects that could cause 'permanent' skipping' - if they are no physical holes/scratches on the silver/bluish//shiny recording surface then you may be able to repair a scratched plastic protective surface by using a CD/DVD repair kit.
3) Clean a possbly dirty CD/DVD player head with a 'cleaning disk'

CD ''SKIPS'' on one player while it plays fine on another. Why does it SKIP?

Simply put it's the quality of the players. This could even be that one has a bit of dust on the read head or laser and the other is clean. Try some canned air (available at most office supply stores) to blow out any dust and debris. As for the cd, most people believe a cd must be nice and shiny or it will not work. This is incorrect. Most devices used to buff out scratches on cd's will leave a dull finish. Try some plastic polishing paste. Polish in a straight line from the center to the outer edge, working your way around.
Hope this helps.

Music speeds up,skips pulsating noise

Ok, this is optical lens assembly failure. the lens assembly is a whole device that runs on a rail with rail motor. the spin motor is also attached to this Assembly as well. the entire assembly will need to be replace due to the damage that has occurred.

Replacing the optical lens assembly will fix all the issues you stated.

Cd player skipping

The DVD transport rides on chrome rails. These get dust and stuff on them and wont allow the optics to track.

If you dare, open the unit UNPLUGGED from the AC.
See if you can get at those rails easily. clean with WD40 on a swab. clean with a new swab . then a couple drops of mystery oil on a swab and run down the rails over and under.
You must be VERY gentle if you clean the lens with isopropyl
