My LG optical reader GH22NS30 will no longer read discs. It has power. I ran the update driver and it says the driver is fine. Under the device status I get the following: This device cannot start. (Code 10) Please help! JIM

    If you are referring to the uninstall option in the device manager then I tried that. If you are referring to a physical uninstall then I have not tried that. It does light up and acts initially like it's doing something but, nothing happens and it does not show up in "my computer".

You said you have updated the driver, and you have the correct driver, best next thing to do is make sure you have an updated service pack on your comptuer use the method 1 below.
Method 1 loadTOCNode(4, 'moreinformation'); Update the hardware's device driver through Windows Update. To access Windows Update, visit the following Microsoft Web site: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com)

if this still doesn't work and your sure that you have the correct driver then their may be a physical issue with your drive. This error happens a lot with usb devices, so also make sure you got the updated usb drivers for your computer if that is what your using.

Why did optical drive lose power?


Appears that the firmware upgrade did not go well - when that happens you are left with a useless piece of gear. That is why it is never advised to do upgrade firmware or Mo bo bios unless it is absolutely necessary for operation. If things are working fine, it is best to leave it alone lest you risk the possibility of a bad update.

My lg (gh22ns30) dvd+rw burner will not read a dvd or dvd rom.


You can go to the control panel, then to device manager, click on disk drives. Make sure you have the right one and then delete it. Restart the computer and it should "find" it and install it, that is if it still works.

Vista and Windows 7 automatically find the drivers by the way. Just get to the Device Manager, locate it in the list under optical devices and right click on it and choose update driver.

To Start go into My Computer Right Click on your
Optical drive and click Eject and see if the tray opens
if it opens it's powered and might have some foreign
material blocking if so clear using some canned air
it if not and the tray cannot be ejected using the computer then you can get a new Optical Tray or DVD reader/writer and it might be easier and or cost affected having a repair shop replace it for you
Depending on your skill set I have changed them before I bought it from Amazon and installed it in about 50 minutes its costs $35.00

Will not reading any disc and will not burn any cd or dvd do not have a driver


Spend $40 to buy a new CD/DVD reader/writer drive,
and install it to replace your "dead" optical device.

This is less expensive than paying a technician to "trouble-shoot".

I have a Sony DVD DRU-820A burner. When I insert a dvd--either a blank one to burn or a DVD disc to view--the name of the drive switches from DVD-RAM Drive (D:) to CD Drive (D:). The burner no longer burns...


The device is _partially_ broken -- the part that reads/writes DVD media is "dead".

Spend $40 to purchase a new CD/DVD reader/writer, to replace the "dead" unit.

Vista can't detect de DVD rive LG gh22ns30


If u are using vista then do not install any extra driver for any removable drive. In vista one cannot install any drivers other those already in its database. I hope your DVD drive is Vista compatible, otherwise it will behave the way you mentioned it..................sodeep
