Question about Pool & Spa

We have a flowmaster xp2e pump in a dynasty hot tub. We have the pump out, and have new seals to install. We are trying to figure out how to take the impeller off of the pump shaft. How is the impeller attached to the pump shaft? Are there any techniques to get the impeller off?

Hello. In order to remove the impeller you will need a pair of needle nosed vise grips. Then hold the motor shaft with the needle nosed vise grips between the motor and the impeller and use your hand to turn the impeller counterclockwise. This will unscrew the impeller. To replace the impeller hold the shaft with the vise grips and screw the impeller on in a clockwise direction. regards, Joe

Its threaded on. Get some vise grips and hold the shaft and give the impeller a good twist and it should come off. I know it sounds too easy.

Hot tub just get hoter wont shut off when it reaches its temp on thermo

It sounds like your heater relay is stuck. You can test this by unplugging the pump that is supplying the water to the heater. If your heater is still getting voltage then replace the heater relay on the circuit board. If you don't have a volt meter, with in a few seconds of unplugging the pump you will start to hear the water boil inside of the heater housing. DO NOT let the water boil for very long. This late in the year you shouldn't be experiencing any connectic heating issues.

Xp 2 wet end leaking

Probably seals are worn behind the impeller.
It is recommended to replace the pump motor as well as the wet end. Be sure to get a pump with same 1.5HP, frame size (48 or 56), pipe size (2" or 3") and an XP2e wet end (replaces the XP2).

Option 2 is to replace the XP2 wet end with the XP2e ($60-$80). Make sure the shaft is not rusted to assure a good seal.
If you want to replace the seals (online $7-$25), you'll have to remove the wet end and then the impeller which may be difficult. I just figured out how to do this. See "http://www.fixya.com/support/t6782638-remove_impeller_aquaflo". Again, check the shaft for rust.

Pump is VERY noisy when running

Depends on the noise you are hearing. I would first check for debris caught in the impeller. If your pump is running but you don't have any flow you will get cavitation which sounds terrible, that would indicate a plugged line. Otherwise, many pumps are able to be disassembled. If you're really not sure, take it apart and run it with just the motor and see what happens.

Where can I buy a Flowmaster XP2E 2hp pump, Model No. 05250000-6?

They no longer sell that particular model pump. The closest comparison is the new XP2E 2 HP pump which comes with the 2" inlet and outlet, but everything else is the same. It also comes with the fittings to convert from 1.5: to 2". This unit goes for about $450 on line. I also have this in stock and would sell it for the same price. Brand new in the box.

They are motor frame sizes - most motors are manufactured to comply with standard dimensional criteria.

Leaking from underneath the machine

If the washer leaks all the time, check these: Hot and cold water fill hoses - Check the hot and cold water hoses from the household plumbing. If either hose is leaking, tighten it or replace it, as appropriate. Main tub seal - The main tub seal is located between the transmission and the outer tub. It's the primary water seal in the outer tub for the transmission-shaft entry point. If this seal leaks, you can see the leak by opening up the machine's main access panel while the machine is full of water with a small amount of detergent in it. The leak appears at the underside of the outer tub, at or near the center. This seal is difficult to replace. You probably should call a qualified appliance repair technician. Pump - If the pump leaks, you can probably spot the leak when the tub is full of water. The pump has two or more black rubber or plastic hoses attached to it and usually has a drive belt that spins the pump. If the pump is leaking, you need to replace it.

I need to replace the capacitor for a flowmaster xp2e 230v model 05825001-2. old one says 35UF +/- 6% 370VAC. is this a run capacitor? i have found replacement capacitors online that say (35) 370VAC, is...

Yes, that is a run capacitor. You will also need to clarify oval or round design.

You should take the old one in to a local electric motor repair shop if it is not obvious it is blown. Even if it is, their will be other issues that caused the capacitor to fail in the first place. You will want to try to identify those and fix them as well or you will be replacing the capacitor again soon.

Leaky 4 HP hot tub pump seal AO SMITH motor, pump

If you have removed the impeller this is what you need.
Part number for your shaft seal is : 37400-0028s
Here is a link to the manual on how to install / remove this seal on this pump:
http://www.hottubs.com/content/pdf/Sta-Rite_Dura-Jet_S377(9-12-03).pdf
Refer to page 9.
This seal can be purchased anywhere on the internet. Just do a google search with only the part number. Many suppliers will come up. If you have trouble, I have a few and can make an E-bay sale for one.
