Hitachi 51F59A Color/Dark problem

Our Hitachi 51F59A rear projection screen television is 12 1/2 months old. While we were watching a program, the picture turned very dark and a blue color took effect. All program viewing is now dark similar to when the brighness is turned very low and the color within the picture is blue.
What could the problem be and will Hitachi back up the product?

screen turns totaly green you must turn it off then back on to regain the picture

I have the green screen problem constantly. As mentioned I simply turn my TV off and then on again, ANNOYINGLY! But now, once again, I have the blue/dark screen situation. It happened before but went away so I ignored it. Now it's back again and I see everything in very dark blue.

My Hitachi tv was damage after a electric storm

  • soxgirl77 Nov 28, 2008

I have been having the same problem. The screen will go completely black with the sound on in the background fine. Usually lasts a minute or so...or the screen will distort like a blue black color.( It did this while I was playin an Xbox 360 game) It goes away if i turn the tv off and then on again. My tv is 3 or 4 years old and i'm wondering if it's even worth it to fix it.

My screen has gone to a dark and greenish color. Tried reseting everything and doing Magic Focus. Nothing?

The 51F59 is notorious for this problem. The pins on the RGB tubes tarnish over time and the connection starts failing, leading to a dimmer picture. To fix the problem, unplug the set. Remove the bottom panel by carefully flexing the outside edges on either side to pop it out of the connectors. Once removed, loosen the top left and right screws holding the center press-board cover in place, then remove the other screws completely. Lift the cover and remove it. Within the chassis the RGB tubes are visible. At the base of each is a circuit board with the tube socket, plugged into the tube, held in place with a clamp. On each tube, loosen the clamp screw then gently pull the circuit board/socket downward to remove it. Gently clean the pins on the tube with a soft cloth and rubbing alcohol, being careful not to bend them. Then re-install the board until firmly seated in the socket, and remove the board. This should be repeated a couple of times to insure the pins and socket connectors are free of tarnish. Finally, re-tighten the clamp and move on to the next tube. When finished, replace everything in reverse order.

Could be the blue CRT shorting out. I had the same problem but with red. Eventually it shorted out completely. If it is only 2.5 month old it should still be under warranty and they will fix it.

51F59A red screen all the time

1. entire grill below front screen must come off (usually held in place by screws in back on either side.)

2. locate and remove inspection plate dead center behind it.

3. Locate small black plastic block with 6 black controls built in; three (look carefully) left to right are focus--DO NOT TOUCH THOSE.

The other three are Screens and will be marked with tiny letters r g b (red, green, blue) and green is always middle.

Locate the red screen (not FOCUS).

With set on adjust red down just slightly(usually less than 1/8 turn.
