How to add fabric softner to the amana washer with locking lid

Check and see if there is a cup in the top of the agitator. Some machines have you put it there, turning back and forth during wash doesn't bother it, but the spin to empty the wash water causes the softener to go out through slots in the top of the cup and be held in the agitator. when it stops the softener drains into the tub, ready for the rinse cycle.

How do you get the agitator to come out the fabric softner dispenser is filthy and all needs to be cleaned

Hello,

By grasping just the fabric softner dispenser and wiggling it from side to side while pulling up the softner dispenser will come out to be cleaned.

How do i pull the agitator to clean inside it? its full of fabric softner and junk.

Depending on the agitator style, you'll have either a fabric softener dispenser or just a plastic cap on the top of your agitator. In both cases, you simply pull / pry those components off and you'll see a translucent cap further down with a rubber seal around it. Reach in and pop this cap off. Below it is a single bolt, threaded through the agitator to the agitator shaft. Remove the bolt with a rachet / socket / long extension or a speed wrench.

Now you simply pull the agitator straight up out of the machine. One word of caution... if you have a dual action agitator, there is a plastic gear / dog mechanism snapped inside. If you handle the agitator with care, you'll be fine. If not, this mechanism can come out and easily come apart- not a good scenario. It consists of 6 parts that you'd have to carefully put back together and reinsert.

Happy cleaning and good luck.

Maytag Performa does not rinse well even on second rinse. Blotches on clothes. Have cut way back on detergent. Still does it.

I had the same problem. It was a buildup of gunk (don't know how else to describe it) in the fabric softner dispenser. I also had a build up of detergent around the upper rim of the basket inside the washer and caught up underneath the agitator. I took my machine apart and scrubbed it all out.
Here is the way to get it cleaned out.
  • Remove the fabric softener dispenser from the top of the agitator.
  • With a 7/16 socket, remove the bolt inside the agitator.
  • Lift the agitator up and out of the basket. This may require a little force.
I use a small putty knife to scrap the buildup then use a rag to wipe the film off. Make sure to clean the fabric dispenser really well. There are small holes in the bottom of it and if they are clogged up, the fabric softener cannot disperse well and when the machine goes into the spin cycle, it will tend to fling the softener under the rim of the basket where it will buildup over time and leave spots on your clothes.
If you need to know anything further, please don't hesitate to let me know.

The fabric softener is clogged with dried up fabric softener on my Whirpool Washer. How can I get it cleaned out?

You really cant take them apart without breaking the dispensers. Fabric softner is basically wax and fragrance. Add very hot water to the dispenser to melt the fabric softner. In the future, water down the fabric softner.

How do i disassemble the fabric softener dispenser? already popped off of agitator

This softener cup doesn,t come apart. The easiest way to clean it is to throw it in the wash cycle with rags and hot water. Then from here on use less softner . Mix it 50/50 with water.

Liquid Softener was clogged up over time.
1-Put hot water in the place of the Softener slowly and let it over flow to dissolve the solidified liquid.
2-Keep doing this until you see water at the bottom of the tub.
3-Run a small load to clean out the gum.

Clothing stuck inside at bottom of Washer.

This keeps happening to me too. Solution :The fabric softner cap has two bevels on the side if you place something in it the fabric softner top will come off. Under the that cap there is a bolt, losen the bolt and the agitator pulls up. Hope this helps, my problem is that the agitator moves back and forth while spinning and causes the close to get stuck. I don't know what is wrong if you can help let me know.

Softner buildup

Fabric softners are designed to be thich and tacky so they adhere to clothing. Unfortuneately, that also means they are going to do it even worse in an agitator expecially as there is no water to dilute it. When I clean my fabric softner cup, I generally just throw it in the dishwasher and let it run since there are many areas of it that cannot be disassembled. Please make sure to run it in a cycle all by itself without any dishes. Now as to the removal. There are two main types of dispensers whirlpool has used. The first will have a greenish blue ring around it. Simply lift up on the ring and it will pull off easily. Now the second style is a bit more chalenging. While the cap up top will come off just by rocking it back and forth. Once this is off you will find a cup underneath that sits on 4 "pins" To get the bottom peice off, place one hand on the top part of your agitator and use one hand to twist the base of the fabric softner in a counter-clockwise direction. It will allow it to come off. Once you it off, you will be able to see down inside your agitator. There will be more build up underneath. I would recommend wiping this part out making sure to clean the drain holes that go out to the side. If you attempt to remove the clear cap underneath, it is very difficult to get the seal on it to seat back in properly. To help prevent against future build ups, pre-diluting your fabric softner with water ahead of time will slow the build up.
