Question about HP Photosmart 2610 All-In-One InkJet Printer

"scanner failure" I have an HP Photosmart 2610. I've never had trouble with scanning or copying in the past and I've had this printer for a little over 3 years now. Now when I try to make a copy manually (not through the computer) I get an error message which reads "Scanner Failure" and then tells me to turn the printer off and try again. Unfortunately, even after turning it off the problem persists. The bulb is on, but appears to be getting stuck in transit from left to right during the copying process and a big growl comes from inside my printer. Doesn't sound good huh? Is there anything I can do?

    I too have a 2610 with the Scanner failure message. I have cycled the power off then on with do change. What more, the scanner works just fine. The problem surfaced one day, shortly after changing one of the cartridges. The worst part is the pop up with the Scanner Failure message and the annoying alert sound coming every 3-5 minutes. What can be done to remedy this?

    The readout panel says "Copying" but that's it. No mechanical action occurs whatsoever, and the only way to cancel is to turn off the machine. The manual does not address this exact problem, but I've taken all the general measures it suggests, including updating the software. The firmware, however, will not update and consistently generates an error message telling me to turn the machine off and then on and try again. After 3 times, I've given up.

See if you can access the internal workings of the scanner, and see if there is something blocking either the track the the light is moved by, or the rail that holds the whole thing together. Also see if there is something preventing the cables that are attached to the light from fully extending.

Well i had the same problem. this is what i did, and it worked! below the top cover is a silver boat shaped cover that you can take off. This reveals 2 screwsholding down the glass cover. Remove these 2 screws and the one you can already see on the left side of the glass cover top. This will not allow you to remove the glass cover completely,but will allow you sufficient space to access the scanner arm. Gently pull the scanner arm towards the left, till it moves say 2-3 inches, then return it to the right. Do this a couple of times to ease up the scanner arm.
Replace the screws and the cover and try scanning.

Good day.
Based on my experience troubleshooting printers, it's a high possibility of a hardware failure. One simple step is to perform a color copy and check if the output is okay. If you can't color copy then it is already a hardware failure and most likely your printer needs to be replaced.

My HP Photosmart C5240 will print from computer but will not scan or make copies.


Is there any error message displayed on the control panel of the printer just like one of the following:
Scanner failure, power off and on
Scanner System Failure
Scanner failed, cannot make copies or fax
Scanner failure. Unable to scan, copy, or send a fax
Scanner failure, cycle power

You may want to try following these steps:
1. Check if the scanner light does turn on when you initiated the scanning process, if not you need to reset the product.
2. Try using your other electrical outlet because your AVR or Surge Extension may not be providing enough voltage for the printer.
3. Try using dirty cycle, meaning you need to directly cut the power of your printer by pulling of the power cord from the rear side of your printer and wait for about 30 seconds before inserting again and turn it on.

If all these steps do not improve your printer functionality, you may want to call the HP online help and ask for replacement.

Photo smart 2610 all in one scanner will not scan


hey i also had this type of problem. but i solved it and hope it will solve yours too.
first of all uninstall all ur hp drivers and softwares related to the hp printer. then restart your pc. now disconnect ur printer with ur computer and turn it off and again on after 15 secs.
now insert the cd which i have got with the hp printer in the cd-driver of ur pc and install the driver.
after the installation is complete, connect ur printer, but do not remove ur cd.
then start scanning, and if it will again ask for installing driver, u dont have to worry it will install it from the cd.
this would surely help u, if problem persists, please tell me.
