Question about HP Photosmart 2610 All-In-One InkJet Printer
See if you can access the internal workings of the scanner, and see if there is something blocking either the track the the light is moved by, or the rail that holds the whole thing together. Also see if there is something preventing the cables that are attached to the light from fully extending.

Well i had the same problem. this is what i did, and it worked! below the top cover is a silver boat shaped cover that you can take off. This reveals 2 screwsholding down the glass cover. Remove these 2 screws and the one you can already see on the left side of the glass cover top. This will not allow you to remove the glass cover completely, but will allow you sufficient space to access the scanner arm. Gently pull the scanner arm towards the left, till it moves say 2-3 inches, then return it to the right. Do this a couple of times to ease up the scanner arm.
Replace the screws and the cover and try scanning.
