This is usually caused by either a bad door switch, a loose door switch mount, or a problem on the control panel.

Even though a door switch clicks, it may still be bad inside. Its continuity must be checked.

Switch or mount trouble can be caused by slamming the door or by opening the door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.

If you or a friend decide to look into it, we have critical information on safety, disassembly and door switches at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

We have the service manual for that model on our site at

The cost of the switches is very cheap, so i spent the 8 dollars or so and replaced all three switches. It is very simple to do and takes about 30 minutes. You may want to spend some extra time really giving it a good clean. My wife cleaned ours while I replaced the switches. It had a lot of grease.

Why microwave fan turns on when I shut the door?

on most microwaves this is an indication that the door safety switch (closed) has malfunctioned some how , id suggest not trying to use it as you can become harmed if your inside this machine , if its a high end machine or part of a matching set of appliances then id have it repaired , otherwise im afraid unless you've got a relative in the business , its not going to be worth repairing as costs to repair will be greater than new one , that's my expiences with them anyways

Sharp combo microwave: Turntable wont stop unless I leave the door ajar. Light stays on too while turntable is going. Everything else works fine - it just doesn't know when to shut up! :)

It's a door switch that's bad. Probably the secondary interlock switch. You need an ohm meter to verify switch not 'making' electrically. Usually the only thing that causes this switch to fail is from opening the door when the microwave is cooking, secondly, by cooking at very extended lengths of time.

Oven starts automatically when door is closed?

It would help to know the full model number and whether the oven is actually cooking by itself when you close the door, or if just the fan, light, and/or turntable is running when you shut the door.

But either way, the first place the start is with the door switches and mounts. My help file on those is here.

If those are good, it may need circuit board repair.

Replaced 20amp fuse that was blown. new fuse did not blow, but oven is still dead.

see this causes and fix it. God bless you
If your microwave oven doesn't seem to work at all, check these: Fuses Door switch Fuses Usually, when your microwave oven doesn't work it all, the internal fuse (thermal fuse) is blown. This fuse protects both you and the oven. When it blows, you need to have a qualified appliance repair technician replace it. Door switch If the fuse isn't the problem, check the door hooks and the door-release button. When these are broken, the door switch doesn't activate, so the oven can't work

I have a R-9H83 Sharp Carousel II Microwave Convection Oven that I have had since my kids were small. They are all grown with their own families now. I am not sure what the wattage is, I cannot seem to...

Here's the owner's manual:

http://www.manualsonline.com/mdownloads/cfe07c4c-6520-4166-81f1-7a3c5676350d.pdf

I have this model with the built-in kit, and love it.

I repaired several "cold solder" joints on the circuit board,
and fixed a loose door switch. The door kept getting slammed
shut due to the misadjusted switch, and this eventually stressed
the circuit board (symptom: red convection oven light would
come on intermittantly, along with the fan, or the oven would
reset itself, display would fade in and out, etc...).

A few years before the Magnetron tube had given up, and I
bought a replacement (~$40 at an appliance parts place).
Symptom there was all features seemed to be working, but
I had no microwave energy produced in the tube (and no hum
from the tube). Here's a test procedure that you can do once
the microwave is on a workbench and all capacitors are
*safely* discharged:

Microwave will not work unless door is held tightly

Sounds to me the door interlock microswitches are mis aligned. Get hubby to check again... some doors are finicky... if it does work until you let go of the door... then we are not dealing with fuses... sounds like microswitches

Door not latching

One of my friend who can fix almost anything is coming once a year to fix all that is broken and not working. It has become a yearly routine. This works out way more cheaper than trying to fix all these "wonderful" appliances myself!

Microwave won't turn on

If the oven is completely dead it might be due to a fuse. Most ovens use a 15-amp ceramic fuse found under the cover. Two problems, though. First, the fuse seldom just goes on its own; usually something else is bad first, which means other troubleshooting and parts replacement. Second, many microwave oven covers are held on with security screws and you'll need to hunt up the appropriate driver.

If the oven has power but doesn't heat, the cause is usually failure of one of three main parts that make the microwaves (magnetron, capacitor or diode).

A microwave oven is not complicated to work on, but because of the voltages present and possibility of microwave leakage if a repair isn't done correctly, there is an element of risk involved. Unless the oven is a very high-end model or a built-in or over-the-range model, you might want to replace it instead of repairing. Like other appliances, they are inexpensive and repair often comes close to or even exceeds the cost of new.

Hope this is helpful.
