Question about Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+

Open Question

I just changed the worm gear on my craftsman 1/2hp garage door opener.. i put everything back the way it was, press the remote button to pull up the door but the chain pushes the opposite way for a second and then pulls the door up about 6 inches off the ground. i press the remote button again and the garage door repeats the same process. What is wrong?

i adjusted the limit switch but it doesn't act any different than before. The motor pushes the door down about a foot and then pulls it back up a foot. the eyes on the bottom of the garage door act as they should. i know today is a sunday but if you have time can you give me a call and try to talk me through a couple of trouble shooting ideas? my number is 512-799-8786. thanks for your help.

SOURCE: motor runs but gear doesn't turn on my Craftsman 1/2 HP

What did you pay for near gears. curious. often get stripped gears in cold weather as door is frozen down to ground. if possible, kick door bottom edge with heel to break bound if you suspect it is frozen to ground.

SOURCE: Garage door opener motor will not open garage door

It sounds like you did a really good job! My Craftsman 1/2 hp gar. dr. opener has a red reset button on it on the l/h side as you are looking at the light/motor from the garage door opening. You have to take the light cover off to be able to see it. My reset button is on the same side as the ground wire. You might check the ground wire while you're there. I really hope that this fixes it for you (and me). I'm quite sure it will as you know your way around the garage door opener already. Good Luck and Let me Know (Please) if it fixed it or not. If I think of anything else, I'll let you know. Have a Good Day!

SOURCE: Garage Door Goes down 5 inches and then up 5 inches.

Okay here we go.

Make sure you put the black cup back on the end of the motor shaft and that it is pressed all the way on. Make sure the RPM sensor is plugged in. If neither of these is the issue, then you probably did not have the motor shaft pushed all the way back when you tightened the coupler after replacing the worm gear. Loosen that coupler up and from the front of the motor (opposite end in which the coupler is on) push the shaft back as far as it will go. Hold it there while you tighten the coupler back up and then give it a try.

SOURCE: Have to hold the push button inside my garage to close garage.

You have a door sensor problem. Make sure the sensors are pointed at one another and the small light on each one is lit and not blinking. Also check the wiring.

SOURCE: Craftsman 1/2 HP garage opener opens only 6 inches

Remove the cover and check the drive gear. It is white nylon and is just in front of the motor. It may be stripped. Take a close look at those door springs. They can sometime appear to be okay when one is broken.
