Question about Ovens

1 Answer

My oven does not heat up. How do I fix it myself?

My grandma has a Maytag Amana electric oven. Model # AER55150AQ
Serial # 17158083GJ
And it was purchased June 21, 2005.
We can't afford to have an electrician come out and look at it. That alone costs $70 plus whatever it costs to fix it.
I am pretty handy at fixing things so I was hoping I could find step by step instructions on how to fix this problem. Every time I try to contact someone online, (like right now), they want a cc# and I will not pay someone to answer my question. So can you help me please?

The number one problem for these ovens is the ignitor. This one is your ignitor according to your model number When it is weak it is intermittent. Sometimes you can get the oven to work if you give it a swift kick. This video explains how it works:
The next likely suspect is your oven sensor. That is the link to your oven sensror according to the model number you posted. Here is a video which shows how to check it:

Maytag electric oven will not come up to temp., heats to 170 but no higher. Clicks like it wants to raise temp. but it will not go up. Model # MER5775QAF. Serial #18808572GL.

Usually the element burns out. It may have "3500 watt element but only producing 2000 watts". It's not completely out, but not far from it.

Up/Down buttons don't work

This would usually need a keypad replacement. It may come as a whole console or as part of range control board. From what I see in pictures, it appears to be an insert panel that goes into console assembly. Looks to run about 200 dollars. You will need complete model and serial numbers off oven to order correct part. These parts are usually not returnable.
