Dell Precision M60 won't boot up

I'm wondering if my computer is done for. When I push the power button nothing happens except that the caps lock light lights blinks ten times. Is there anything I can do?

I am having the exact same problem... I have tried powering up from the standard power supply and the docking station power supply and have the same results. There has got to be a Dell trouble shooting manual of some kind that decodes the blinking light.

    Help Please!!!

I also have a Dell M60 and my problem is as follows:
If I connect to a docking station, I can power on from the dock station and my laptop powers up fine.

Without the dock station, AC and/or battery I cannot power up my laptop.

If I power up initially on the dock station, and eject from the dock station, I can restart my laptop without a problem. However, once I shut it down, it will not power back up until i connect to the dock station.

I have the same problem with my M60. I cannot get it to fire up at all. I've taken the cover plate off that hoses the on/off button and checked that the connections are complete. I have also bought a new memory unit but to no avail. When I press the on button, the green power light on the hinge stays on for about 4 seconds then just goes off. This happens whether it's on battery or AC power supply. Any other suggestions???

This is a memory problem, most likely. Try swapping the SIMs or putting them in one a time.

If you only have the one SIM, see if you can borrow someone elses

I had same problem with my M60, tried solution #2 "pushing down on the right side of the solver bar" to the right of the power button and bingo! my dead machine booted up.

As the guy says it must be a loosce connection.

Crazy but it worked, a bit like doing CPR on your laptop!! many thanks

Solution 1 works. Thanks a lot.

I had this problem with my laptop. I figured that some of the connections were loose. I cant tighten them but I figured that if you push down on the right of the silver bar and press the power then it should work.

Hope I've helped.

I had the same problem and solution one is the fix. I remove one of the memory modules and the system boots up fine.

SOURCE: I have a dell d600 laptop. it won't boot up at all. if you push power button, the caps lock light blinks a few times and then it shuts off

Your power supply is probably dying. You can bring it in to a pc shop and have them test it or you can test it yourself with a psu tester like one of these:

I have a fujitsu e8410 which will not start up properly, when i push the start button it shows power but then the fan comes on and the cap num and shift lock leds flash and nothing else. can you help?

When you plug in the power cord is there any lightswhatsoever on the laptop, where the plug goes in or on the AC Adapter of thepower cord?

When you press the power button do you hear fans running, hard drive spinning, lights on the computer, hear any beeps or lights constantly blinking, hear theDvD/CD drive click and the light on the drawer of the DvD/CD turn on for asecond or two? If so the laptop is trying to boot or may have booted, butthe screen is not showing for some reason.

Beep tones and blinking lights tells the technicians what is going on with thelaptop and why it is not booting. Most times it's a motherboard issuewhen you hear beeps or blinking lights continuous.

Maybe your power cord is bad if you don't get anything to happen whatsoeverwhen you press the power button. And if that's true maybe you wasoperating off the battery the last time you had it on and since the power cordis bad, it was not charging the battery so the battery is drained and the powercord is bad.

Maybe you have a Static Charge Buildup. Remove the Power Cord, Remove theBattery, then Press and Hold the power button for 30seconds. After 30 seconds plug the power cord back in (leave the batteryout) and hit the power button to see if it boots. If it does, you can putthe battery back in and let it charge.

My laptop screen is black and caps lock and scroll key are flashing

That is a security configuration on HP Laptops, depending on the way they blink is the problem your machine has.

Here is the web page where this info is posted, in case you need more info, hope this helps you to determain.

This document pertains to HP Notebook PCs with the HP Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) beginning in late-2008. On startup, you may see a blank screen. If the diagnostic utilities detect a specific problem with hardware components, the fan turns on, but the screen remains blank. To help identify the cause of the problem, various LED lights on the keyboard blink a series of codes. The diagnostic utilities use the LEDs near the Num Lock or Caps Lock keys to blink a series of error codes. At the end of the series the blinking stops. The pattern of blinks will occur any time you attempt to start the computer until the error is resolved. Battery power LED blinks The Battery power LED indicates the condition of the power supply. When starting the computer, or when the computer is in operation, use the chart to identify the power condition. Battery Power LED Component Tested Error Condition Battery power LED off, and Caps Lock/Num Lock off Battery or AC Adapter AC adapter not connected or failure

Battery low charge or failure Battery power LED blinking Battery Insufficient charge on the battery When new computer is used for first time, the white LED light for the AC power connector blinks. Battery is still in "Shipping Mode", the light continues to blink even when AC power is connected.

To resolve, turn off notebook, connect AC power and allow battery to charge for at least 30 minutes, then start computer. LEDs near Caps Lock and Number Lock keys blink when starting notebook The LED lights near the Caps Lock and Num Lock keys will blink if an error is detected during the start up process. The LEDs will blink a number of times in a sequence and then stop. The number of blinks in the sequence indicates what component caused an error when it was being tested during start up. If the LEDs stop blinking and the computer does not start, you can press the power button again to repeat the tests. Count the number of blinks, and use the chart to identify the error condition. Knowing the number of blinks is helpful when you contact an HP support agent for technical help. Blinking Lights, Computer Wont Boot

If it's blinking 9 times then it's likely telling you one or more of the RAM sticks are in need of replacement. To check these, remove the laptops power cord and battery, then locate and remove, the cover for the RAM. Remove one chip at a time and try booting the laptop.
