Dell Precision M60 won't boot up

I'm wondering if my computer is done for. When I push the power button nothing happens except that the caps lock light lights blinks ten times. Is there anything I can do?

I am having the exact same problem... I have tried powering up from the standard power supply and the docking station power supply and have the same results. There has got to be a Dell trouble shooting manual of some kind that decodes the blinking light.

    Help Please!!!

I also have a Dell M60 and my problem is as follows:
If I connect to a docking station, I can power on from the dock station and my laptop powers up fine.

Without the dock station, AC and/or battery I cannot power up my laptop.

If I power up initially on the dock station, and eject from the dock station, I can restart my laptop without a problem. However, once I shut it down, it will not power back up until i connect to the dock station.

I have the same problem with my M60. I cannot get it to fire up at all. I've taken the cover plate off that hoses the on/off button and checked that the connections are complete. I have also bought a new memory unit but to no avail. When I press the on button, the green power light on the hinge stays on for about 4 seconds then just goes off. This happens whether it's on battery or AC power supply. Any other suggestions???

This is a memory problem, most likely. Try swapping the SIMs or putting them in one a time.

If you only have the one SIM, see if you can borrow someone elses

I had same problem with my M60, tried solution #2 "pushing down on the right side of the solver bar" to the right of the power button and bingo! my dead machine booted up.

As the guy says it must be a loosce connection.

Crazy but it worked, a bit like doing CPR on your laptop!! many thanks

Solution 1 works. Thanks a lot.

I had this problem with my laptop. I figured that some of the connections were loose. I cant tighten them but I figured that if you push down on the right of the silver bar and press the power then it should work.

Hope I've helped.

I had the same problem and solution one is the fix. I remove one of the memory modules and the system boots up fine.

Your power supply is probably dying. You can bring it in to a pc shop and have them test it or you can test it yourself with a psu tester like one of these:

I have a Dell Precision M60 laptop and the charger adapter's led light is on when i plug it in, but the laptop won't turn on.I've replaced the battery and tried a different charger but that...

Unfortunately it sounds like you have an issue with your motherboard. If you remove the battery and just try to power on the laptop using the AC adapter and it still won't power on then it's probably the motherboard. The power supply circuit (where the AC adapter plugs into) for the motherboard is integrated into the motherboard.
Sorry. If it's still under warranty Dell will replace the motherboard.

Dell precision m60 press the power button the screen blinks for a second the lights next to the power button stay lite for about 3-4 seconds then the entire laptop turns off. ANy ideas guys?

You could have a bad peice of memory or a bad memory slot. Pull the memory out and try one peice at a time in each of the two slots. If you only have 1 peice you will need to either borrow a peice of the same memory or buy it. You also could have a shorted battery so pull the battery out if the ram is ok and try to boot. Another idea is the cd rom may have a problem so pull it if the ram and battery are ok. After doing all this if the system will still not boot the motherboard must have a short and needs replacement. This model also had an issue with the power board where the power button is. The connector on the motherboard was poorly designed and very sloppy. Over time it gets worn and causes a similar issue. The temporary cure is to press very hard on the power button to see if it will boot and then leave it running. You can also put pressure on the underneath side around the docking port and press the power button. This issue however requires a new motherboard. The M60 is almost the same as the D800 infact most parts are interchangeable. You could switch out the motherboard to a D800. I refurbish the D600 AND D800'S daily so I am fimilar to this issue. Let me know how you make out. Phil pmgibs1@verizon.net

Dell M60

At the left of your power button, past the word PRECISION, there is a slot for a screwdriver. With the screen fully open, use that slot to remove the power and volume buttons. At the other end of the stip you removed will be the connector that connects the buttons to the motherboard. Reconnect it better.

Screen resolution is locked at lowest setting!

Hi!

you cant change the resolution? did you check the video card driver in device manager? check if the driver is installed properly. if not, then download the latest video driver at support.dell.com > go to drivers and downloads and select your system. If the video driver is okay, then download the latest BIOS upgrade in the same site. post back here if the issue persists.

Hope this helps!
