"Root" means the player is reading the Root Menu of the Disc, which contains the title information, chapter information, etc - it is nothing to worry about.

Hi I simply cannot get my DVD-5041 Curtis Home Theater system to play my DVD's, as it is always saying bad disk, and I have to put in a code for the Parental Guide...How do I get original settings?

urn power off on front panel (not remote)

Turn power on on from front of DVD player (not remote)

Immediately open tray

enter 9735 from remote control
(you may have to attempt this several times as timing seems to be important, but may not be necessary to power off and on again with each attempt)
If you can not enter in the hidden menu after 5 attempts repeat from first step again by powering off unit. If you till have no success please see comment at bottom

Hidden menu appears

on remote use arrow down to region

use arrow right to select region code on right side

use arrow up to go up to region 1 , then one more arrow up and no region will be highlighted. (line above region 1 MAY be highlighted

Hit enter on remote

Close door, hack is complete

Note: This player will play back PAL or NTSC DVDs and output automatically PAL or NTSC
or can be forced to PAL or NTSC. I will support DIVx up to 1024x576 with tested Bitrates up to 2200kbp via the USB port. player seems to skip on such videos paying from CR media.

This player comes in various flavors. If above code does not work after several tries, repeat procedure with codes below in the following order

DVD wont read

Hi,
This is because of the lense problem, and there is a alignment problem, i mean to say that the lense tuning is almost gone......!!!!
if you want to resolve your issue, better you change the entire lense set to work properly.

Wrong region

Hi , The reason for the error message is because your DVD player is set to one specific zone. The below procesure will open the DVD player to play all zones.
TURN ON THE PLAYER
PRESS OPEN/CLOSE
USING REMOTE PRESS STOP-7-3-4-4-6-6
YOUR REGION AREA WILL APPEAR. PRESS "0" TO UNLOCK (OPEN the DVD player to ALL zones) ALL, THEN WAIT. INSERT YOUR DISC. Hope this helps. Let me know the status. Thanks, Mike

About the whole system and how it work. help!!

mine has the same issue. you can use the other functions, but it is rather annoying having to wait for the system to figure out it is broken. You could just remove the DVD player so it doesn't test it every time you turn the power on. I opened mine up and figured out it was just a plastic piece that came lose and jammed the DVD rack. Im going to contact Panasonic to figure out how the piece goes back in.
