    The model number is KV-36fs100.

    yes I have the tools to unsolder or sorder parts in the circuit board and a Multi meter for any diod, transistor or voltage testing.

  • VicML Feb 06, 2010

    I am sorry, I sould have told you that i have replaced the horizontal out put transistor, it was hard to test since it has a damper diod, so I replaced it with a new one but it did nothing, the proble is till the same.

    I have also checked the both rectifier diods in the power board, both seems ok. have also check for cold soder joints, low ohms resistace and the all seem good. that's how far I've gone.

    Thanks for the help you can provide for this problem.

    is that IC 702 the RGP amp?

  • VicML Feb 06, 2010

    Ok, I will proceed as you instructed, I will take that chip out (IC 702, RGB amp).

    But would you clarified this for me again, did you say that If this chip is bad the TV will come on or will it go to stand by and the LED will bink five times?

    thanks again welcomjee

  • VicML Feb 06, 2010

    Ok welcomejee, no good news.

    I took the chip out and it the symtom is the same, stanby LED blinks twice and that all is doing.

    where do we go from here?

  • VicML Feb 06, 2010

    As in my previous reply, when the chip is out stand by LED blicks twice as before, the tv doesn't come on, not even for a for a second.

  • VicML Feb 06, 2010

    Welcomjee, unly if I had the schematic!!

    I don't have the schematic, but I did a hot voltage check on the B line and I am not getting any voltage in it, the whole Fly back is not getting any voltage (not 15 or - 15 v, nothing).

    Since I don't have the schematic I can't go far to see where I loose the voltage, so I am suspecting that my problem is some where in the power supply, what is your expect opinion on that?

    Again thanks

  • VicML Feb 07, 2010

    I thought that's why I joined you guys, because not only you have the schematic but also the knowledge.

    Should I try another guy and see if some one else might had similar problem and somewhat knows what component in the powe suply might be causing my problem? either way I do apreciate your help this far.

  • VicML Feb 07, 2010

    Thanks, Welcomjee, I actually wasn't expecting for you to provide me with the schematic but for you to walk me thru some parts of the power supply just as you did with RGB board.

    Thanks

  • VicML Feb 16, 2010

    Welcomjee, I found the problem and fixed the TV. The problem was not in the power supply, but in the main board, a sorted high voltage swttching diod. Keep that in mind for some body else who might have similar problem.

    Thanks for all your subggestions.

    Good,
    2 times standby red light blinking means problem in deflection circuit and most probably horizontal out transistor is shorted.
    Please check it and let me know.
    Thanks.

  • Shahid Electronics
    Shahid Electronics Feb 06, 2010

    OK, 2 times blink is over current protection that means +B volt line is got shorted some where, please check RGB drive chip mounted on CRT neck board, simple test is to take chip out from circuit board and turn on tv, if tv turns on that means chip is bad.

  • Shahid Electronics
    Shahid Electronics Feb 06, 2010

    Without that chip, tv will go to standby and led will blink 5 times (if I remember correctly)
    That is IK error because chip is out.

  • Shahid Electronics
    Shahid Electronics Feb 06, 2010

    Yes, located on RGB board on CRT base.

    ==============================================================

    It is test to clear +b line, if RGB amp chip got shorted it also prevents TV to turn ON
    Regarding 5 times blink, it is an error code of IK (incorrect white balance) as TV wont show any picture because RGB amp chip is out so no cathode drive pulses will return to main board and that will be sensed by protection circuit thus tv shuts down with 5 times blinking led.

  • Shahid Electronics
    Shahid Electronics Feb 06, 2010

    I missed one point here,
    TV will turn on for moment, green light will blink as tv is getting ready in normal, then will shut down and 5 times blinking led code will start.

    =============================================================

    Unplug tv, take ohms reading between collector and emitter pins, if you get very less ohms like 1 or 2 ohms that means some part (other then H-out) is short on +b line, might be any diode, electrolytic capacitor, flyback transformer etc
    You need to follow +b line in schematics of tv

    ===========================================================

    I got it, RGB chip is not causing any problem. Put it back please and follow +b line to find out any bad part.

    ===============================================================

    Thats true, problem seems now in power supply section as nothing is available in deflection section.
    You can download service manual of KV-36FS100 from HERE for small fee, schematics are necessary to repair tv on component level.

    Check R592 0.33 ohms 2Watt on A Board (could be open or devalued)
    Check Q003 (2SD601A) on A Board, its part of protection circuit, open its collector and check does tv turn on?

    Good to know that tv is fixed. Great job.
    What is circuit code of that diode? I mean Dxxx
    Thanks for sharing info.

My sony trinitron television will not turn on. it will click and the stand by light blinks, but there is no picture. can I fix this?

It sounds that there is a direct short circuit in anywhere in circuit board. Most probably, it might be to vertical sweep output section, in Sony TVs. Here you noted that the standby light blinks. Blinking of standby light to Sony TVs are fault indications. Count it, and check this.

watch the blinking light---if a specific sequence like 7 blinks a pause and repeated endlessly that is a error code. It will not point to a specific part but will indicate where the issue might be.

non of the blinks are good but here is yours
\
\5 times, Diagnosis: White balance failure (Not balanced) Possible causes: Video out (IC7101, 7201, 7301) is faulty (CR, CG, CB board), CRT drive (IC309) is faulty (A board), G2 is improperly adjusted. Symptoms of the problem: No raster is generated, CRT cathode current detection reference pulse output is small.

Here you find sony blinking codes

SIX Blinks---No Horizontal (H STOP), no raster, goes to the blinking selfdiagnosis
function immediately. Check C515 & 516 and the jungle IC, IC206.

SEVEN Blinks---High voltage shutdown. The high voltage has exceeded 33k
and the unit goes immediately into safety shutdown. Check power supply
regulation and horizontal circuits.
