I need to remove windows 7 and replace windows xp

The correct way is to erase the hard drive (HDD), you do this by downloading a erase tool such as active killdisk, Darik's boot and nuke. Western digital also has a tools CD you can download that will erase a HDD.

Formatting a HDD from NTFS to NTFS is not the right way, but people who have no clue do it.

If you want the easy wrong way, just throw in the windows XP disk and boot from it, usually tapping F11, or F8 if the disk doesn't start the windows installation.

I suggest you read the link I post so you can read how to install win XP. With pictures.

Not an absolute expert... unless you are onnecting via esata, it is a driver driven drive and will not be bootable.... USB and Firewire I do not believe are CMOS supported.

Besides that the through put on USB and Firewir are pathetic compared to a 'real' HD. USB claims 240MB/s but can not sustain that rate, Firewire 400 is only 400MB/s... Sata2 is 3GB/sec...

Hi i got gx270 and i made a bootable acronis disk director on a flash so i can format ntfs to fat 32 as i tried before to install win xp from a flash drive but got a stop message sayin i should check...

First of all I have to ask why you are trying to load FAT32 instead of NTFS. NTFS is the preferred file system for all Operating Systems after Windows 2000. Also, you cannot format the hard drive through the Windows XP installation for larger than a 32 GB partition. If you need a larger partition, I suggest using a floppy drive with the3 WinME bootdisk loaded on it. You can get it here:
Try the WinMe bootdisk from http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm

If the above is not the issue than we can move forward with other solutions.

Good Luck,

Go to add new hardware wizard. This may not come with a disk if you do have a disk it will ask you to put disk in. If you do not find it there go to the HCL directory of the western digital website for installation directions.

Installing XP on HP m8120n

The Blue Screen of Death (also known as a stop error, BSOD, bluescreen, or Blue Screen of Doom) is an error screen displayed by some operating systems, most notably Microsoft Windows, after encountering a critical system error which can cause the system to shut down, to prevent damage.
Bluescreens on NT-based Windows systems can be caused by poorly written device drivers or malfunctioning hardware. In the Win9x era, incompatible DLLs or bugs in the kernel of the operating system could also cause bluescreens.
Bluescreens can also be caused by physical faults such as faulty memory, power supply issues, overheating of components, or hardware running beyond its specification limits. Bluescreens have been present in all Windows-based operating systems since Windows 3.1; earlier, OS/2 and MS-DOS suffered the Black Screen of Death, and early builds of Windows Vista displayed the Red Screen of Death after a boot loader error.

I hope it helps!!!
