Make sure the audio is enabled in you bios first.
Go to Asus's download site (link provided).
Here you'll find an update for the SoundMAX ADI Audio Driver. I'm not saying this will fix your problem. Asus has a lot of trouble with their chines audio/mic chips. It's been like this for many years, though Asus makes some of the best boards on the market. Uninstall your current audio software through Device manager. In Sound, audio & game controller. Right click on the SoundMAX ADI Audio & uninstall. Download the updated version. Creat a folder on your desktop & save in there. Uncompress the files & save within the created folder. Re-start you Pc. After windows finishes loading & you closing all the windows finding new hardware windows. Open Device manager again, open sound, audio & game controller. Right click on the icon needing a driver & update, use the browse button & point to the folder on your desktop with the updated drivers. Re-start you system. Test your audio. There is no bios update for the
SoundMAX ADI Audio when I looked. If you audio still fails to function than your audio chip is defective. All Asus boards carry a three year warranty. You can call at:1-812-282-2787 Tech. You will need the serial number. You'll find this number on a white sticker loacted on the pink serial port. On that sticker is Asus coaded date the board was made. Hours of operation 8:00am to 8:00pm M-Fri. IL EST US. I doupt this number will be listed in your manual. Your call will last less than five minutes. The tech will ask a few questions concerning your audio & will than give you a case number which you will use for to get a RMA no#.
Food for thought. Only with some Asus boards can you get away with adding a PCI sound card. You have a 50/50 shot it will work. (as a work around). I suggest you do the RMA. Armed with a case No# call CA at: 510-739-3777 (Sorry no toll free), & speak to a operator who will get your email & send you the forms with a RMA No# .
