Question about Vacuums

1 Answer

My 4870 K Boss is 2 years old. I have replaced belts & filters in the specified intervals. This last time I replaced the belt after a year, it shredded 3 of them on the outside edge of the belt in about 5 minutes of use. I ordered a new brush roller & heavy duty belt which I installed. It began shredding the belt in less than 5 minutes of use. What is your suggestion? Is this a known problem with this model? Eureka says no and is not standing behind it.

I have tried and looked at these things. If the pulleys are warped after only 2 years then the model is a dud. Does anyone have any other advice?

You're probably right and thanx. But I have seen the assembly diagram and have no intentions of taking it apart. I have already spent $70 on belts & new brush roller in hopes of not having to take it in to get worked on. I think now that I can only hope that Eureka will give me my money back on the brush roller and spend that towards a new vacuum instead of spending that on getting it repaired which will all in all be close to or as much as buying a new one.

The only reason why it would be shredding the belt is if the pulleys were not lined up correctly. Check the allignement of the belt to make sure there is nothing kepping the pulleys from being in line. The other thing that it could be is if the roller was not rolling freely check the beater bar and make sure it is free and if not clean the inside of the end caps to be sure they are free of hair and other debris.

Why does the belt on a riccar vacuum keeps coming off?

The cause could be different depending on which model you have. Some models have stretch belts which should be replaced at least once per year because they lose elasticity. The most common problem I've found with Riccar vacuums is the belt coming off when a new belt is installed on an older model. Riccar vacuums are very well built and many owners use their vacuum for many years without having it serviced. I recently had a 17 year old Riccar Vibrance model brought in for service because the belt crumbled to pieces. The vacuum had the original belt and filters. Putting a tight new belt on the vacuum pulls on the motor because it must be stretched so much. After many hours and years of use screws may need tightened up and motor mounts and pivot points can become worn.
If your model is a few years old or is used heavily I suggest having it inspected by a qualified Riccar service center. A properly maintained Riccar vacuum can last 10 or even 20 years. A few dollars spent on maintaining it can add years to the usable life.

Eureka Part Number: 61110B (Replaces 61110, 61110A)
And the roller i think: Genuine Eureka Brush roller part number 61250-3 for Eureka The Boss/Smart vac/smartvac ultra 4800 series vacuums including models 4870 and 4880
Hope this helps you.

My Eureka The boss Smartvac Model #4870 roller brush won't turn even on the highest setting and the belt smells hot. we took the belt off. How can you tell if it needs replaced?

Just by what you explained I can tell that it needs to be replaced. The belt doesn't have to be broken to need replacing, if it is stretched and worn then it will slip on the motor shaft and not turn the brush roll and get hot. My Eureka Boss vacuum belt keeps breaking

I have been searching the machine for something which could be rubbing against the belt to cause it to fray and break as often as it does. So far, I haven't found anything. I have heard that the belts, called ribbon belts, are terrible! I find that the belts break faster when I use the hose. I haven't found a way to make a belt last longer.

No sucking power

Check the hose it is clogged very common in this model. Use a clothes hanger to push trapped debris while on. if its real bad you might have to remove hose to clean out.
