Question about Cameras

Sony Cybershot USB cable covered by the warranty?

I got this camera (and obviously the cables it came with) for Christmas, 5 weeks ago. Today I plug it in and the USB cable seems to have gone bust. Otherwise it's the camera, but I don't wanna think about that right now. Anyway, after chatting online with tech support for about 15 minutes and trying every possible solution, she suggested I buy a new USB cable. Now, maybe I'm just sticking to principle too hard here, but I feel it's not on me to buy a new USB cable to replace one I've had for 5 weeks. I get that they're cheap, and I COULD get one if I have to, but I'm stubborn. I have the warranty next to me and its not specific enough either way. Here's a pdf of it: http://www.docs.sony.com/release/Warranty_214863512.pdf What are your thoughts? If I'm wrong I'm wrong, no worries. But this tech wouldn't give me her id, saying they don't have them, and I also never received a transcript of the chat. I DID take screenshots, at least. Just seems fishy.

No company offers warranty for accessories, all give you warranty of product like your camera but accessories are not covered in warranty. Buy new usb cord and enjoy.

Well, I don't know what you mean by the cable went "bust". I do know that pros don't bother with the cables...they use a card reader to transfer their pics to their computers. Try it...you'll like it.

I bought a toshiba, have not used my sony cybershot 1.3 till today, only to find I cannot download my pictures because my driver is not installed.

The easiest alternative method to transfer the pictures onto your computer is to remove the memory card and plug it into a card reader (either built in or a USB card reader if you have one). If not, you can connect your camera to your computer by the USB cable.

Once you plug the camera or the card in, Windows will usually ask you if you want to import the images. You can do that or import them manually by opening up the SD card or camera in my computer and dragging the files to the folder you want to store them in.

Otherwise please post your exact Sony Cybershot model and the version of Windows on your Toshiba and we can try to find you the correct software.

Please leave feedback if this was helpful. Thanks.

I have a DSC-S650 sony cybershot camera. A few days ago I was able to upload pictures from my memory card via USB cable to my computer without difficulty. Now, my computer doesn't even realize my camera...

An easy way to find out is to try another cable. Better yet, consider NOT using the USB connection at all.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program, such as Picasa ( http://picasa.google.com ).

Just take the back cover off, unplug the cable that runs to the switches from the main board and plug it back in. I had the same problem and it now works great!

Sony Cybershot W35 viewing photos on computer problem

Try connecting to a friend`s PC.

If the camera connects, there is a USB driver problem on your PC. If not...

Your camera has a blown fuse on it`s serial communications line. Contact your nearest Sony dealer and take the camera for repair.

If they only have to replace the fuse it should be quite inexpensive, if not and they need to replace the main board you should first determine the value of your camera and then look at the cost of a new model.

Good luck.
