You're not making this easy. What is the distinction between "not working" and "very hard to get them to..."?

For all we know the whole receiver is dead. What works? What doesn't?

Better questions with information in them get better answers.

What does that mean - work a little? What kind of speakers are we talking about?

  • David Dunn
    David Dunn Feb 08, 2010

Front speakers are NOT surround, so whatever is coming out of them should not be surround programming. You said the receiver won't show you the speakers on its setup (?) menu.

Let's work in strictly stereo. Select FM for the test and tell what happens.

You are our eyes, ears and hands. Whatever you have observed should be in these entries and I shouldn't have to interrogate you to find it out.

You actually said "everything else works". Is that literally true of will I hear much later about something else you noticed?

Please, invest as much time and care in this resolution as you expect me to.

Is there a speaker B (or alternate speaker) selection that might be selected incorrectly?

I'm nearing the end of my 20 questions.

  • David Dunn
    David Dunn Feb 08, 2010

Answers like "everything else works" aren't very illuminating, considering you think the fronts are surround speakers. What do you hear from FM in STEREO mode (not surround modes selected) from the front speakers? Define "partial sound".

I can find nothing for a manual online.

  • David Dunn
    David Dunn Feb 08, 2010

So does the volume control affect it at all? Has this EVER worked correctly?

I don't know what your front speakers are. Do you have headphones you could try?

  • David Dunn
    David Dunn Feb 08, 2010

    And your front speakers are....?

Have you tried another speaker for the fronts?

  • David Dunn
    David Dunn Feb 08, 2010

I'm out of ideas, too, unless we can locate a manual.

  • David Dunn
    David Dunn Feb 08, 2010

So, did it EVER work? If so, what happened just before it stopped working?

  • David Dunn
    David Dunn Feb 09, 2010

So, could you now fill in the mssing information that might lend a clue to the onset of the failure?

  • David Dunn
    David Dunn Feb 09, 2010

    The plot thickens.

This is what you should have STARTED this request with, "when it got unplugged i couldn't get in the menu where it says front there's a button on the front of the receiver called speaker mode and if you hit the button it shows f c r for front center and rear and if you hold the button in dashes flash and thats the most i can get out of it".

WHAT got unplugged? Under what circumstances?

So the Speaker Mode button cycles through some modes. Holding it makes dashes appear. What happens when you just tap it briefly? Does it cycle? What, exactly are the modes? Is FCR a single mode or does it go F, then C then R then dashes. Select F and see what happens.

Hi, I've a problem with audio outputs from the sub. Specifically the front-right audio out plays both front-right and surround-right audio out while surround right out does not play anything. Can you help...

Do you have your receiver setup for 5.1 and not stereo surround? It sounds like it does not have 5.1 enabled. Look in the manual to see how to configure for 5.1 surround. You should have separate audio configuration setting for each speaker.

Center channel port - no sound

did you have a speaker on that output already? if not you might have to enable the speaker output in the speaker setup of your amplifier, refer to the amp manual to get these posedures to enable it into the surround system, if yo here a lot of vocals cominig out of the left and right while watching maaterial with surround suong then this backs up enabling it.

cheers

How du you do a reset to factory settings?AMC R9 receiver Regards Pelle

Reset button is behind the input selector knob. Pull off knob, get a pen or unfolded paperclip and insert in hole at top and press. (same idea as if the cd tray is stuck in a computer).

-->All AMC 20s have a 8 7/8" R&P and use a 29 spline shafts. The AMC 20 R&P is 3/8" bigger than the Dana 44, but it uses smaller shafts, smaller axle tubes, and the CJ version comes with weaker two piece shafts. The AMC20 uses a 29 spline shaft where as the later Dana 44 uses a 30 spline shaft. The AMC 20 housing tends to flex a lot which can cause breakage. This can be remedied by welding the tubes and/or adding gussets. The reason the AMC 20 flexes more than the Dana 44 is the shorter differential housing and smaller axle tubes. It's other flaw is the CJ version uses the two piece axle made up of a hub and a shaft. The hub end tends to break off under load which has created the market for one piece AMC 20 axle shafts. Unfortunately, the shafts are expensive ($350+ USD) and in some cases a special bearing must be used.
amc20co_.gif -->Identifying the gear ratio of an AMC 20 is a bit tricky. Dana axles normally have a tag on the left of the diff cover with the gear ratio at the time of build. The AMC axles have a code that has to be looked up in a table. The code is stamped on the housing boss to the left of the diff cover right near the axle tube. Good part about the stamp is it tends to stay readable longer than the tag, but you have to know the code. Since there are conflicts between what a code means for a narrow track and what it means for a wide track, don't count solely on the code to identify an axle. Bring a tape measure or know the source of the part. You may have to scrape away a lot of mud, paint, and rust to uncover the code. If you can't find the code on the rear, check the tag on the front axle. Both axles should be geared the same. The R&P ratio ranges supported by the carriers are 2.73 and 3.31-5.13. The 5.13 gear ratio is not available for the Dana 30 though, so it is rare to see it. 4.56s are the lowest common ratio between the Dana 30 and AMC 20. 5.13s are available for the Dana 44.
CJ AMC 20 The CJs used two versions of the AMC 20, the narrow track from '76-'81 and the wide track from '82-'86. Both versions use keyed, two piece shaft/hub design and 5 on 5.5" wheel bolt pattern. Supplies of AMC 20s were exhausted in 1986 and some Dana 44s were used instead in the last of the CJ-7s.
From 1976-1978 a larger 11x2" drum brakes was used on the AMC 20. After 1978, a 10x1.75" drum was used.
SJ AMC 20 The Wagoneer and full size Cherokee also used a narrow and wide track version of the AMC 20. Both SJ versions used once piece shafts and 6 on 5.5" wheel bolt pattern. Since the length and bolt pattern is different from the CJ version, the SJ shafts are not compatible without resplining and redrilling. I've never heard of anyone going to the trouble.

Reciever only allows 2 channels(speakers) at a time.

If the amplifier is not receiving a surround sound signal, you will get nothing from the rear speakers and probably nothing from the front centre. Play a dvd in dolby surround and it will work.

I had this problem too. Finally, after using the MCACC setup and making sure all the speakers worked, I found I had to set the source to FM, TV or whatever from the remote control and set the mode to advanced surround sound using the front panal button on the upper right. Had to fool with them a lot. Good luck.

Center and surround speakers work, but front right and front left speakers do not put out any sound

I had the same problem. Set the reciever on 6 channel stereo. On this setting, you should be getting the same sound out of each speaker. Isolate which speakers aren't getting sound. Now, on your speaker switch (the A/B button), select A. If that doesn't fix it, select B. If that doesn't fix it, try A and B (if you can on your reciever).

Now, when you switch back to pro-logic, make sure your a/b channel switch is in the position that worked in 6 channel stereo. Yamaha recievers have a memory, and when you switch various modes, it makes auto adjustments based on what you had set in the past.

Hope this helps
