Have changed the batteries again with new proven ones, unit does not respond.

  • f_reitsma Feb 06, 2010

Brand is Scott Model MDX i65. It is a home audio DVD unit

  • f_reitsma Feb 06, 2010

    ???

  • f_reitsma Feb 06, 2010

Cannot switch the unit off using the power button

  • f_reitsma Feb 06, 2010

Cannot operate the unit with the buttons on the front panel

  • f_reitsma Feb 06, 2010

Can I reset the unit, so it starts from the initial position? Deadstart

  • f_reitsma Feb 06, 2010

Your analysis is probably correct. How Can I reset the unit?

  • f_reitsma Feb 06, 2010

Are you also reading the user manual I have, or do you have additional info?

  • f_reitsma Feb 06, 2010

Reset on the Unit by unplugging and plugging does not work, as I try to explain previously

  • f_reitsma Feb 06, 2010

I expect that the unit has been exposed to a strong magnetic field. Same happened to a "atomic" clock in the surroundings

  • f_reitsma Feb 06, 2010

    Thanks for you help.

  • f_reitsma Feb 06, 2010

Expert has been working on the base of the user manual plus his additional electronic expertise.
Maybe another expert does have another trick to solve the problem

  • f_reitsma Feb 07, 2010

Thx for your suggestion. Have tried this before but it is not the code controlling the remote control. This was reset to 00000 and worked after resetting.

There is no make or model so we are winging it here.

What happpens in most remote control circuits is the following:

1. Batteries need replaced or battery termnals are corroded and need cleaned.

2, Keypad terminals in the remote are coated with some foreign matter be it body oil or something from food causing sticking keys or non functional keys. The remote key pad carbon coated rubber buttons and prinited circuit card must be thoroughly cleaned. The remote must be dis-assembled / taken apart to perform this task. A stuck remote control key from the introduction of foreign matter renders it completely non-functional.

3. A capacitor terminal has become loose from the remote falling on the floor or being dropped. (Will require a new Remote Control IC board)

4. The printed circuit board in the remote cracks from falling on the floor pr being dropped. (Will require a new IC Remote Control IC Board)

5. There is a problem with the IR circuit in the media center / reciever

Most of the time steps 1 and 2 will correct remote control issues.

If you need more assistance please provide your Make and Model.

Thank you for using Fixya.

This is not really a solution but I would first make sure you have fresh batteries in the remote control and that they are installed correctly and if so you may have to search for a new code between the remote and home theater system. This you should not have to do, but it has happened to me in the past. Hope it works.

    =============================================================

OK, Can you turn is on or off from front power button of unit and can you operate it by front control buttons?
If yes, then remote sensor sounds bad in your sound system.
Let me know model and brand of your sound system.

Cannot operate the unit with the buttons on the front panel
    ==========================================

OK, that means system control chip is not working to accept remote signal to turn unit on.
Qualified tech is required to inspect its internal circuitry.

Can I reset the unit, so it starts from the initial position? Deadstart
    =====================================================

I do not see any reset button on unit.
System control chip gets reset electronically every time when you plug unit in AC socket.

  • Shahid Electronics
    Shahid Electronics Feb 06, 2010

System control chip requires 3 things to work, Volts supply, Oscillation and Reset command.
All above you can check with schematics of unit and multimeter.

I'm reading each word of your comments/ response and answering it accordingly because unit is not in front of me and your comments are feedback to diagnose/ analysis the problem.

It is hardware failure in unit that requires to take apart unit for further circuit inspection.

unit's own speakers also have strong magnetic field, I do not think that it can be cause of problem in this unit.

Dell dimension 4600 led light comes on on motherboard but nothing else

That means that the power supply unit is OK. The problem lies somewhere after the power cord connection to the motherboard. do the following:- 1. Disconnect the power cord and reconnect. Reboot. 2. Remove the RAM DIMMS and reinsert and reboot. 3. Remove both the ends of the data cable of the HDD and reconnect and reboot. Make sure that the red strip on the cable is towards No 1 pin on the HDD. 4. Remove the processor with the cooling fan, reinsert and reboot.

Printer cycles on/off and displays "improper shut down"

Got the same problem following a message "Printer ink failure" code 0xc19a0035. Instructions say to shut down using button on/off. But printer refused to shutdown. After 30 minutes, I disconnected power cable. Removed cartridges. Reloaded cartridges. Reconnected power cable and got "Improper shutdown" message with continuous cycle. Solution: 1. While the printer is still turned on, unplug all cables and cords at the back of the printer.
2. Unplug the power cord also from the wall outlet...
3. Wait for two minutes.
4. Reconnect power cord to the wall outlet first.
5. Press and hold the pound (#) and six (6) buttons.
6. While holding down the two buttons, reconnect the power cord to the back of the printer and after two seconds, release pound and six buttons.
7. Turn on the printer if it turns off... and it's fixed.

Emachine W2646--lights blinking on keyboard, pwr lamp on speaker on,power button on tower YELLOW,NO response! unplugged several hours, now dead,as if unplugged! This happened overnight while shut off...

If you have a Yellow light on power supply, chances are you have blown the power supply.
Even with a PC unplugged in a Bad Storm, I have seen many PC's and Laptops with Supplies shoot.
If you have a little computer savvy, the best thing to do is,
1. Disconnect power.
2. Open unit.
3. Disconnect all Devices from supply.
4. Disconnect 20 04 24 pin power supply connector to mother board.
5. If you have other connectors such as 4-pin 24 Volt acc. you can disconnect that as well.
6. Now plug in the supply. Note... Some supply's have a reset located in the rear of the supply, where it makes its input ( A/C connection. ) If so try the reset. Some supply's also light up or have a service light when sensing input power, some do not.
7. If all looks good and no sparks or flames, re-connect the mother board connection, (only)
Try to power on computer.
Note..... If you still have the Yellow light, Replace the supply.

In some cases, the power supply sees a fault and fold back to a protection mode.
The supply has several Capacitors in which hold a charge and when connected to the mother board retain that charge. Disconnecting the Mother Board 20- 24 pin connector will allow this charge to dissipate.
If all works after reconnecting supply, Your Good To Go.!!!
If not, you may need another Power supply.
Or may have done other damage.

Hope all works out for you.
Try it, it may work...

Hp pc m7640n won't turn on and power supply light is out

OK, this can be a hard thing to fix. Most of the time, the power supply is the first thing to go on a PC. However, when you stated that the motherboards LED came on after you unpluged the PS from the motherboard, it leads me to believe that the motherboard is the issue but the power supply might be outputting higher voltages and the motherboard might be shutting down. Since the power supply is cheaper then most motherboards, I would recommend getting a new one. Check ebay for a new power supply. It should be about $20 with shipping. If the same thing happens, then you need a new motherboard...
