The following troubleshooting guidelines are basic troubleshooting steps. Battery Charging It is recommended to charge the battery while the system is off for faster charge times. Users may notice longer charge times when the system is powered on and running graphics extensive applications.
No POST If the system does not perform a Power On Self Test, there are various things to look for:
  1. Check to ensure that the system has a power light.
  2. If the system has no power light, ensure that it is plugged into AC power. Remove the battery.
  3. If the system has power but is not performing a POST, check to see if the keyboard status lights flash to indicate a successful POST, but no video, or that the keyboard status lights are lit in a sequence indicating a system problem.
bios_leds-1.jpg
  1. With the power off and the system unplugged, remove all CRUs from the system and reconnect that AC adapter to the system and try again.
  2. Run the On Board Diagnostics (OBD).
Video If the LCD on the system shows no display, or has other LCD problems, there are some basic steps to take:
  1. If the LCD is not displaying video or the video is garbled, run the BIST Test.
  2. If the LCD is not displaying any video, connect an external monitor to eliminate a no POST problem. A good image on the external monitor eliminates a video card problem or a POST problem.
  3. Connect an external monitor when possible for all LCD related problems, to help eliminate a software possibility or video card problem.
  4. If the LCD has extremely dim video, attempt to adjust the brightness or connect an AC adapter to eliminate a power management conservation setting set in the BIOS.
  5. If the LCD has lines on the screen, check the system during POST as well as system setup to verify if the lines are present in all modes of operation. Run the BIST Utility.
  6. If the LCD has color problems, run the BIST Utility.
  7. Run the On Board Diagnostics (OBD).

The screen just went black

If the system appears to POST, but displays no video, then try the following:
  1. From and off power state, press D + Power and see if the LCD Diagnostic runs. You should get 4 solid color panels (RGB and white)
  2. Try running the system with an external monitor (Fn+F8 to enable the VGA port)
If the LCD diag fails and you get video on an external monitor, then the LCD and or the LCD Backlight have failed. ($100 or so on EBay for a replacement)
If the LCD test comes up, and you can't get video in the BIOS or in the safe mode (No Dell Splash screen etc) on the LCD then most likely a motherboard, also about $100

Monitor is blank

HI there,

Problem : no power
Action : * Make sure power button or switch is ON.
* Make sure A/C power cord is securely connected to the LCD display.
* :Plug another electrical device (like radio) into the power outlet to verify that the outlet is supplying proper voltage.

Problem : Power is ON but no screen image.
Action : * Make sure the video cable supplied with the LCD display is tightly secured to the video output port on the back of the computer. If the other end of the video cable is not attached permanently to the LCD display, tightly secure it to the LCD display.
* Adjust brightness and contrast.
* If you are using an Macintosh older than G3, you need a Machintosh adapter.

Hope this helps.
Have a goo day.

Lcd has audio only no video from any input source

There are two places to look for the problems, the backlight inverter board and the power supply. Look at the power supply first since it is easier to get to, look for burnt parts, bad capacitors, etc.

No video. LCD comes on. Sound works. Suspect PC Board or LCD Interface, need suggestions.

The LCD control board is defective. Normally the LCD control board comes with the LCD panel (with a shield coved on the back of the panel). Check you user’s manual, call the service center to see what they can do.

I con't connect with lcd projector, xp windows

The video output will automatically switch to the data projector first when you power up the data projector first and then boot up the laptop.
When you power up the laptop first you can toggle the Windows image between the LCD screen and the video port/data projector by pressing the Fn key plus the F4 key. Pressing these keys each time will switch the display from LCD screen to video port only, to both LCD screen and video port, and back to LCD screen only.
