    Hi,

The only documentation i,ve located. is that the 990 error is related to a coupling. ** please read Taken From An Article:-

The coupling is a mechanical device that engages the OPC drum in each toner cartridge with the drive block once the carriage has properly positioned the toner cartridge with the transfer belt. This position is determined by the carriage detect ribs that pass through a home position photo sensor. All these ribs are the same size except one. This longer detect rib is home position and is located near the magenta cartridge slot on the carriage. When this longer rib passes through the home position sensor, the cyan cartridge is engaged by the coupling to begin its share of the writing and primary transfer process. As each color comes into position, the coupling motor rotates a cam that locks the carriage in place and engages each OPC drum. When the carriage is ready to rotate to the next color, the coupling motor reverses to disengage the coupling.

The coupling position is detected by the “coupling on” sensor, or the “coupling off” sensor. If either one of these sensors does not see the sensor flag when it is supposed to, a 990 error is shown on the display. If either of the sensors is bad, a 991 error will be displayed. For troubleshooting these two errors, Hope this has helped to resolve your Problem.

Printer Problem

error occurred
1. Press CANCEL JOB to clear the print job from the printer memory.
2. Turn the printer off, and then turn the printer on.
3. Try printing a job from a different software application. If the job prints, go back to the first application and try printing a different file. (If the message only appears with a certain software application or print job, contact the software vendor for assistance.)
4. If the message persists with different software applications and print jobs, disconnect all cables to the printer that connect it to the network or printer.
5. Turn the printer off.
6. Remove all memory DIMMs or third-party DIMMs from the printer. (Do not remove the firmware DIMM in the lowest DIMM slot.)
7. Remove all EIO devices from the printer.
8. Turn the printer on.
9. If the error no longer exists, install each DIMM and EIO device one at a time, making sure to turn the printer off and back on as you install each device.
10. Replace a DIMM or EIO device if you determine that it causes the error.
11. Remember to reconnect all cables that connect the printer to the network or computer.
12. If the error persists, replace the firmware DIMM.
13. Replace the formatter.

Brother MFC-440CN Error 50

The cover on the 440CN is tough to get off. I have removed many. I will tell you that the cable from the scan (black mylar [plastic]) is fragile. I destroyed one of the printers by killing the connector end of the cable. That being said, on the 440 you have to remove the push button panel before the cover. There are 3 screws in the back. The cover then snaps off but feels like you are breaking it and it will snap as it comes off. I did not break this part on any of the printers so.... you should not worry too much. After that there are clips on the front that keep the top cover on. You must release these with a screw driver. You can insert the screw driver and twist. While twisting apply some upward pressure and it will release. You also have to remove a number of connectors, ground wire to get it apart.

Paper jam

open all door in your printer , front and back. , look for paper stuck inside and remove it. Sometimes small pieces of paper are difficult to be found.
If it is a Laser printer, you will also need to remove the toner and paper try and look for jammed papert underneat.
Once you done, restart the machine.
If you still have paper jam error try unplugging printer from power outlet for 5 minutes then restart.
If you still get error, then either there is paper inside or your printer may be faulty.

Brothe MFC-240C paper jam error msg won't clear

**, it is not fixed. I followed instructions on Brother web site and was able to find a piece of paper near the printhead, so I removed it. The printer makes a grinding sound when it tries to print and the same paper jam error returns and can't be cleared. I beleive that the printer repair cost will be more expensive than replacing it with a different printer, and it won't be Brother brand. I probably would not be able or have the tools to do any complicated repair job.

OFFLINE problem - unable to print

Hi,
if your printers saying Offline, it means that your printer is not connected/switched on or detected by the computer.
Try a hard reset or re-installation of the printer itself.
power on/off ( On the printer )while this error message appears.
Check the cable from Printer To Computer.
