Question about Canon Cameras

1 Answer

Canon powershot G6 Can't download pictures from camera to laptop. Never had a problem before. It states USB is not recognised, bought a new USB lead & it still doesn't work. USB card reader doesnt work on my laptop. Re-installed laptop (vista) and it still wont download. sent camera for repair and got it back and it still doesnt work. phoned canon and they havent a clue and are looking into it. I have found a temporary work around by putting my flashcard in my printer and downloading via the printer but you need a printer with a flashcard port/reader for this.

SOURCE: Can't download pictures from camera to laptop.

Let's go all the way back to your card reader not working when you plug it in. Are you sure? Sometimes you have to open "my computer" to find it...it will be a removable drive.

When I try to download pictures to my laptop from my camera nothing happens...My camera says at the bottom communication error...I have had the camera since Feb and downloaded pictures to my laptop many...

Canon PowerShot SX130 IS Digital Camera's come equipped with the installation cds for their software. Make sure these are installed properly. The reason that the camera is stating "communication error" is that it cannot properly communicate with the computer, so make sure that your USB works properly (ie. no bite marks on the wire, it's not loose, you get the drift), that you're not using a USB hub (or if you are, it's capable of sending and receiving packets at a high speed) and that your camera is charged. Usually this can be resolved with changing the USB, so try another usb if you have one lying around, and make sure that it's connected properly to the camera and the computer.

USB not recognised; While trying to download the pictures from my camera to my laptop after connecting the USB connector, I get a message which states that USB not recognized

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

I have lost my CD on how to download the software for my powershot A30 and want to now download picture to my laptop, where can I get a CD or other source so I can.

Using a USB lead, you shouldn't need a driver or other software. The computer can recognise the camera memory as a removable drive without actually recognising the camera as a camera. Try looking in "My Computer" for an extra drive (Under "Devices with Removable Storage") and opening that. There should be directories with picture files in them that you can drag to your desktop.

Many people find it more convenient to just take the memory card out of the computer and put it in a card reader, especially now that these readers are built into computers and printers. You can't get the pics from the camera's internal memory that way though.

Software, driver, and manuals can be downloaded from this page.

After a couple years of use, neither of my computers will recognize my G6. This is the second G6 I've had with this problem. Canon replaced the first camera with a new one. I have just returned from a trip, and don't know how to get the photos transferred, before I send it back to Canon. Would appreciate any helpful information. Thanks.
