To clean it that way you would have to take most of the machine apart and unscrew the heatsink / fan from the cpu. I think the best way to get this cleaned is to combine a vacuum cleaner and a can of compressed air, with the vacuum on full power in the spot where the laptop takes in the air and blow the canned air from the port where the air comes out, that should get it all out from there, if its really build up in there, you might have to open up the machine, or take it apart.

not much, 20-60 $ I don't know what people charge for it.

basically the canned air will do a great job at getting the dust out from the laptop with in combination of a vacuum cleaner.

Lenovo laptops

1. Check to make sure that you have good air flow around the laptop, including sides and bottom.
2. Make sure fan/heatsink area is clear of dirt, etc. If you are using the laptop in an environment where there is a lot of dust, it will clog up the fan/heatsink.
Check the Lenovo support forum to see how the clogged heatsink looks. https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-P-Y-and-Z-series/Y560-overheating-and-shutting-down/m-p/677023
Be aware to get to access to the insides, will require dis-assembly of the laptop. Best left to experts.

Overheating

I would remove the bottom cover and clean the fan and radiator as a build up of fluff will reduce the cooling.

I have a problem with my ideapad S10-2 heatsink fan. It started making a terrible sound and it never stops! How I can turn-ff or disable the fan?

Do you know when the fan and heatsink was last cleaned for dust?
It could also be the fan that is faulty. Does the laptop turn off frequently and get hot?
Unfortunately, as for disabling or turning the fan off, it will make your laptop stop functioning as all laptops and some other electronics need to vent the heat produced by itself. Hope this helps.

I have lenovo z560 (ideapad).it got off automatically,,,

Overheating When the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermal overload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is the problem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are clogged with dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make sure the vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed air to do this.

Fan is not working overheating

1. fan generally in laptops are usually are clogged with dust that needs to be removed
2. A container of canned air to blow out the fan usually works but for complete cleaning of the fan an the heat sink attached the laptop has to be disassembled.
3. If you are not familiar with the dis-assembly procedures for laptops I wouldn't chance it.
4. contact a tech in your area to see if it can be done
5. There are sensor connected to the fan to the mother board to sense heat and will shut the board down if the processor gets to hot.

I have a Lenovo IdeaPad U460s 0885 - Core i3 330UM 1.2 GHz when i try loading sims 3 it overheats and shutsdown

Hello,

Laptops shut down when they overheat to protect themselves from damage due to heat. Can you hear the fan running on the laptop? If not, then take it in to a shop to be looked at, or contact the manufacturer if it is still in warranty.

I will assume that the fan is probably running at full blast all the time. if this is the case, then you probably need to clean the heatsink on your laptop. How?

An air compressor is best for this if you have access to one. A can of compressed air may work, but usually does not have enough pressure to clear it out.

Your laptop fan draws air in through the bottom of the laptop and pushes it through a heatsink. The heatsink is a piece of metal that draws heat away from the cpu (main chip on the laptop) and allows the fan to cool it. The fan blows air between tiny metal "fins" on the heatsink. You will probably be able to find where your laptop blows out the hot air.

Find where the hot air comes out of the laptop, and blast compressed air into that place. You will probably see a cloud of dust come out of the bottom of the laptop. Keep blasting air until no more dust comes out. Once this is done, the laptop should run quieter and cooler. Let me know if this does not fix the shutdowns.

Hope this helps!
