However, brand name manufacturers often build proprietary power supplies or make up their own color coding, so I wouldn't throw out a power supply that supplies 5V where you think it should supply 3.3V. It's more likely a proprietary design than a failure.

I would check the resistor going to the voltage regulator and see if it either has a bad solder joint, or is shorted.

My compter is dead, and I just want to verify if it is the power supply, motherboard, or power switch. I have a EG351P-V. If I completely remove it from the computer, plug it in, and turn on the switch on...


No, don't start shorting anything yet! Here's a picture of the power connector:

Turn on the power switch on the supply, then short the green PS_ON pin (pin 14 or 16 depending on the style plug your supply has) to the black ground pin on either side next to it. DO NOT short across the plug to pin 4.

If the supply is working, this will cause the fan to start up and you can measure output voltages as shown on the diagram. (In fact, this is how the motherboard turns the supply on. The supply provides a 5-volt standby output as long as it's plugged in and turned on to keep the motherboard running to detect the power button. When you press it, the motherboard provides the PS_ON ground to fire everything else up.)

Be aware that without the load provided by the motherboard and other parts of the system, you may be able to measure output voltages (especially if you're using a digital meter) that may not be sufficient to run the system under actual operating conditions. Bad capacitors can cause the voltage to drop when loaded, and this will cause the dead system or other strange troubles. The best way to determine if a power supply is causing problems is by substituting a know good one into the system.

Lambda ews600-18 voltage goes down.


there is a short circuit protection and overoad protection to smps so o/p capacitor may short or secondary diode may short .so check voltage at primary when switched off after 33seconds whether switching process is going or not for that check dc volt at i/p capacitor then check volt at collector of transistor if metr shows 1digit then switching is going if not then meter shows full dc volt check component near about that

ok first you disconnect the power supply from motherboard then measure the output voltage if it is ok then there is two wires green and black at o/p of power supply short green and black and see fan is rotating or not if rotating then power supply is ok if not then open the power supply check ac voltage in the pcb if present then check dc voltage after bridge rectifier and ckeck part by part

There should be 12v coming from the yellow wire and 5v from red. Open PC and use a multimeter to check the voltage output connect negative probe to the power supply casing and the positive to the red and yellow wires from the molex connectors. If the readings are below the mentioned voltages then the PSU is faulty. Note if readings can be round off to the given values then the output is fine. cheers.

first you switch on the supply by shorting (green and black )wire in output socket of smps.then check output voltages.If there is no voltage then check switching transistors or protection transistos that is placed on first hit sink.check primary bridge and capacitors for open.
