We have a snow king 5hp/22'' mtd snow blower that we cant get started. We have cleaned the spark plugs but it seems the fuel is not getting to the plugs to ignite the engine. is there a particular position the controls need to be in to start it?

Take out the spark plug and pour an ounce or so of gas into the plug hole.
Replace plug and then try starting.
Sometimes the needle sticks to the seat in a carb that has not been used for a while and this should loosen it up.
You may have to repeat this procedure two or three times. It has worked for me on a number of occasions.

Key on choke it..start.

see if your getting spark first...if you are most likely you have a dirty carb and it needs cleaned well (build up from old gas will make them gummed up and not work at all). try that and then try to start again

Tecumseh will not start after replacing flywheel key. engine has good spark and is getting fuel

check compression. You have two parts of the engines operation triangle! The only thing left if timing is correct is compression.

Are you sure you got the right flywheel key? Some engines have stepped keys. Althought you would probably have backfire issues if the timing was off that much.

Get compression numbers! Good luck and be careful!

The engine runs for alittle while then it quits

clamp off fuel line or drain tank ,there is a brass nut on bottom of carb.(holds on fuel bowl) the brass nut is also the jet for the carb.unscrew nut and check for dirt or foregin material plugging pick-up holes on side off nut body, also make sure center hole is opened (small straight pin size hole) be sure to wipe clean inside bowl before reassembly.

Have you checked for spark? You have drained the old fuel completely, and added brand new fuel,Right?

Is the spark plug getting wet or is it soaked?

Let me know, we'll get it started.
