Hello my friend probably is a bios setting, somehow you hit default settings or flash your bios and you turned it on.Go into bios(hitting del on boot) and on the general page there will be a setting for a floppy drive, likely something like floppy 3.5" 1.4mb choose it and hit enter and you should be able to disable the floppy drive. If there is no setting, look for a HALT ON ALL ERRORS setting and change it to keyboard onl.

Floppy Diskette Seek Failure Drive 3 Not Found: Parallel ATA, PATA-1

If your computer has the old floppy disk drive on it, then Remove the Power Cord, Remove the Case and then remove the cable from the back of the floppy disk drive. Evidently the drive is bad.

If there is no floppy disk drive on your computer, turn the computer off, restart it and watch the screen for which key it says to hit to get into the System Bios or System Setup and hit that key. You have to hit the key when you see the message or it will not work and you will have to reboot it. Once you get into the bios check your devices and drives for the Floppy drive and set it to None or Not available ( It is probably set on auto or enabled). Also check your Boot Sequence or Boot Order in the bios and remove the Floppy Disk from being in the boot sequence or set it to be after the Hard Drive and CD Drive.

It shows me no boot device available what is the problem

have you left a disc in any Drive (cd, floppy Etc.) if you have remove it, else it is not finding your hard drive, try checking in the bios or check the boot order. If problem persists then it could be a hard drive failure, looking in the bios you should see your hard drive listed but if you dont know what your looking at get someone who does to check your devices (HDD, CD drive Floppy if fitted) in the bios for you.

ABC diagnostic lights are green and D is yellow. Ram only works if slot 1 is used. If slot 1 and 3 are used Bios appears on the monitor with a flashing cursor. Dell dimension 8400

A,B,C green and D yellow is indicative of a component failure...in that the system cannot read a device it feels necessary to boot the machine such as a hard drive, floppy or cd/dvd drive. Power down the system, remove the power cord from the back, push the power button in for 10 seconds to bleed off the power. Remove and reseat all cables connecting the system devices. Remove all ram except for one stick and reboot. If you get boot, then try replacing the ram one stick at a time. If you still cannot boot though, try removing the cables from the devices and then plug in one a time until you get the machine to boot. If there is still a problem, the hard drive or its controller maybe the culprit.

Hi - I have a Dell 8400, fails post. Diag indicators are A,B,C green and D amber. Sometimes the screen is black with a single blinking cursor and sometimes it shows the Dell splash screen. Cannot get to...

Unfortunately the dell website (not me) is not very helpful. Here's what is says about your diagnostic lights

Another failure has occurred.

  • Ensure that the cables are properly connected to the system board from the hard drive, CD drive, and DVD drive.
  • If there is an error message on your screen identifying a problem with a device (such as the floppy drive or hard drive), check the device to make sure it is functioning properly.
  • The operating system is attempting to boot from a device (such as the floppy drive or hard drive); check system setup (see "Boot Sequence") to make sure the boot sequence is correct for the devices installed on your computer.
  • If the problem persists, contact Dell.

Dimension 8400 locks up. Keyboard won't respond.

Generally and indication of a software issue that is locking the system. There can be hardware causes too.

  1. Run diags on the system (From Resource CD or F12 menu) see if any failure. If you have a hardware failure then address it and see if the problem is solved.
  2. Update bios and drivers from support.dell.com
  3. Edit MSCONFIG, startup group, remove entries that are not required (Generally only AV and printer scanner items are needed here, most other items will function without and item here)
  4. Edit the Virtual Memory settings, and set it to Custom and an amount double the RAM (EG: 4 GB RAM set initial and Mas to 8200 MB VRAM)

Dell optiplex gx280 won't boot up

you either have the boot priority in the bios off or you have improperly cabled your hard drive . perhaps you set it to boot to cd while installing the operating system and forgot to change the order back.
The floppy drive does not have to be present for the system to boot (if set to "not installed" in bios)
your boot devices are your cd/dvd rom and your harddrive.
Seeing as you've recently replaced the power supply , ime assuming you didnt dismantle the whole computer , just the power leads coming from the power supply, which means you only moved power , not data cables.
This would be the first thing to check -- power to the harddrive and cd rom, the 4 pin connector that sometimes connects to the motherboard and any data cables you might have bumped while changing the power cables. check these things and post here again.
Regards
