My Hitachi CPX990 image blues and reds are fuzzy on the screen. I changed the lamp bulb...same issue. What could it be?

Your response was not related to my problem. ONLY the blue and reds are fuzzy....not the entire picture.

The bulb would not affect the focus. You have a problem with the TFT panels in the light engine. The only solution is a new light engine. Last one that I installed cost $350. I would think that you may be able to install it yourself. Basically it is the entire assembly inside the unit minus the power supply and video in/out boards. Here are some web sites where you can get the best price on the engine www.encompass.com or www.shopjimmycom or www.partstore.com . Let me know how you make out.

I'm not sure what you mean byyour statement that my response is not related to your problem? It is exactly related to your problem. A DLP light engine requires 3 TFT panels to operate. One is red, one is green and one is blue. The light from the lamp you replaced goes through all three panels via a prism and color wheel. Your color wheel could have issues with the red and blue portions but I seriously doubt it if all you did was replace the lamp. I still believe my diagnosis is correct. I have replaced light engines for customers with the exact same problem. The cost I quoted should be very close. Let me know if you need more help.

Once the lamp is replaced it is essential to reset the timer back to zero or the lamp WILL not work. Lamp Life – Projector lamps have a finite life. The image will become darker, and hues will become weaker, after the lamp has been used for a long period of time. The length of the lamp is normally 2000 hours, on the screen there will be an indicator giving you adequate warning that the lamp is reaching its 2000 hours. (The lamp will automatically switch off after the 2000 hours and will not go on again – THIS IS A SAFETY MECHANISM TO HELP STOP THE BULB FROM EXPLODING). At this time you need to be ordering a new lamp. ---- if the lamp is new and lamp brightness is coming properly then its the problem of loose connection for this fuzzy image.remove all the connections and reconnect again properly and tightly at their respective ports/sockets. then check out.if still the same problem of fuzzy image comes up then check out the front lens from where the light ray from projector comes out.if that front less is dusty or not cleaned properly then also this happens.clean the front lens with a dry cotton cloth and check out. if there is no dust and every thing cleaned and bulb is properly glowing then its the problem of the internal circuit board of the projector. the circuit board needs to be checked with a meter and the faulty components on the circuit needs to be replaced. This will help. Thanks please keep updated.please do rate the solution positively .thank you for using fixya

Lamp light blinking red

From your description it sounds like the lamp bulbs needs to be replaced.
You need one of these:
http://www.amazon.com/Hitachi-50VS69-Watt-RPTV-Replacement/dp/B006C58MOI
NOTE: DO NOT TOUCH THE GLASS PART OF THIS BULB. The smudges from your fingers can show up on the image projected onto your screen and make things look blurry.
Once you have the new bulb then turn off the TV and unplug it. On the back panel there is a rectangle on the left with a screw holding it on. Use a philips head screwdriver to loosen the screw then slide the rectangular panel to the left and pull it off. Inside will be the old lamp bulb. Use the screw driver again to remove the screw holding the lamp bulb in and pull the lamp bulb out (it may be hot). Insert the new bulb and then screw it back in. Place the panel back on and screw it back in as well. Make sure the screws are tight or the TV may not turn on. You can now plug the TV back in and turn it on. If done correctly this should resolve the issue.

There is red and blue lines around screen and images. (Almost looks like it should be 3d). Does this mean it needs a new lamp/bulb? It is only 6 years old. What is the cost for the part? Thank you

If model number is as listed (46f500) it does not use a lamp or bulb but has three picture tubes.

3d means the two convergence chips in the set have failed.

It depends on if you can solder etc, not a very expensive parts cost (under 30 dollars)

Can you solder?

Depending on the bulb, you can do a continuity check, that's about it. The average bulb will last from 3-7 years depending on viewing habits. The sets are programmed with a "lifetimer" that you will reset once you replace the bulb. I'm not sure if it's based on resistance degredation across the filament or just time. Any way you look at it, unless there is a board issue as well; when you replace the lamp, you will have a Much Brighter and Sharper image!. As a cautionary warning, do not buy a Chinese Knock-off to save 50$ They have a high fail rate and only last a year or so. Stick with the MFG recommended lamp. Hope this helps

Hello,

My name is Charles and I will be assisting you with your issue.

Have you changed the source input or the bulb recently?

When did this issue start and is it there always or does it change?

Have a green tint over 90% ot the center of the screen

I had the same problem with my 60V500A about a year ago. The screen got a red tint in the center and the image was fuzzy in that area. A new lamp didn't solve the problem. I did some checking and found out that the original light engine used in this model had a cooling issue that could cause the light engine to overheat and distort the LCD panels. My warranty had run out more than a year before this happened so I figured I was screwed since the light engine was so expensive. I decided to call Hitachi tech support and see if I could get a discount on the cost of a new light engine since the cooling problem was a known issue for this model TV. I calmly explained to them that I was aware of the cooling issue in the light engine and that I felt like a $4000 TV should last more than two or three years. Tech support gave me the phone number for my local authorized Hitachi service center and I gave them a call. Once the technician confirmed that it was the light engine that was the problem Hitachi sent him a replacement light engine at no cost to me. I was WAY past my warranty period so I still had to pay for the labor to replace the light engine. $300 for labor was a lot cheaper than buying a new light engine or tossing the TV and buying a new one. I have to say that Hitachi earned my respect for admitting there was a problem and doing what was needed to correct the problem more than a year after my warranty had expired.

Try removing the new bulb and reinsert it and make sure it make a good connection. Be sure to follow your projector's instruction manual on how to change your bulb exactly.
