I can't remember if the timer has to be pushed in or pulled out to remove it, but the timer knob comes off by turning it in a counter-clockwise direction. Once the knob is off, the clear plastic dial underneath should pull off. There is a single screw under the dial that holds the timer in place. You can access the timer by popping the operator console up. There is a release tab in the front corner of the console on each side. Simply slide a putty knife under the console at each front corner and push straight in from the front. The console will lift up after each tab is released.

If you have questions, or need further advice, please let me know.

PS Is there a particular reason why you are trying to remove the knob? Do you suspect a defective timer? Some problems may give symptoms that make it appear to be timer related, but it may not. I just don't want you to spend money on a timer unnecessarily, if the problem is attributed to something else that is less expensive.

I tried to turn on my dryer and the knob pulled off. Of course I can push it back on, but I, now, cannot turn on the dryer - whatever the knob "catches" to pull out --> and thus starting the dryer does not seem to be working

How do you replace the timer in a Kenmore Washer Model 22622?

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (###.######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

Next, see the following for how to release the console:

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=131&osCsid=41610396bdeaf9d724c8d6b9910df259

Basic Whirlpool / Kenmore washers may use one of two different timers. See the following Whirlpool / Kenmore Service Manual

https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/f7e2147fa98b28cf85257122007475cb/$FILE/L-55.pdf

Assuming that you have the metal timer, You'll need to remove the timer knob. The easiest way is to hold the metal shaft that passes through the timer with a thin needle nosed pliers while un-screwing the knob.

Once the knob is off, it's a simple matter to unplug the connectors and remove the bolts holding the timer to the console.

I have a Kenmore washer model 110-20712991. the timer doesn't advance. Wherever I put it, it stays there and only does that functions, never advancing to the next position. Is there any test i can perform...

It does sound like a bad timer:

See the following: This is a Whirlpool / Kenmore Service Manual for top load, direct drive washers. It has testing instructions as well as directions for removing each of the two types of timers.

If your timer is the one with a knob that un-screws, use a thin needle nosed pliers to hold the shaft going thru the timer while you un-screw the knob.

Our kenmore 80 series (110.27812692) pooped out on us,... the motor and water pump needed replaced, so we bought a used kenmore 70 series (110.82872820) from a friend,... it works fine, but the control...

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer(s):

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter the model number (###.######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

Check the part numbers for both machines in the "Console" section.

Also see the following Whirl[pool Service manual for top load, direct drive washers.

https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/f7e2147fa98b28cf85257122007475cb/$FILE/L-55.pdf

Whirlpool top load, washers use one of two different timers. Depending on the timer the knob comes off differently.

For most, by holding the back of the timer shaft with a thin needle nosed pliers, the knob unscrews.

If this is a basic top load, direct drive washer, these units may have one of two different timers. (See the Whirlpool PDF).

On models with a metal timer, you have to release the console, pull it forward and tilt it back in order to get to the back of the timer.

The knob screws onto a medal shaft that goes through the timer.

Usually, trying to un-screw the knob won't work by itself since the shaft will also turn.

I found that if you hold the back of the shaft with a thin needle-nosed pliers, you can unscrew the knob.

Then you simply have to disconnect the timer.

The Whirlpool PDF also has troubleshooting and testing procedures for the timer.

How to access the timer on my kenmore 11026962502

((((top load washer machine )))

first UNPLUG THE WASHER FROM THE POWER OUTLET..!

On the headpanel looking at the knobs
you will see the side covers on the end of the head panel. depending on the model of course, the side covers pop out
lift the bottom of the cover slightly, then the top an pull to the outside
then use a philips screw driver to remove the two screws one on each side, then slightly move the headpanel towards the back , then raise it then up an you right in it

to remove the timer you will see some srews holding the timer from the back, and to remove the knob pop the time knob out an turn it clock counterwise an the knob will come off

just a comment am not sure why you chancing the timer on your washer, but iin case your washer washes an stops right at the spin cycle, and is fill w/water. is not the timer that is bad, check the lid switch may be broken!

good luck post some feedback!

This appears to be a timer / timer motor problem.

I'd alto look at the Whirlpool / Kenmore direct drive installation and maintenance manual for testing the timer.

Something in the timer came apart. Timer needs replaced. When in good working order, the timer should ONLY ever be turned clockwise..Reversing this could break it.
