Usb wireless router shows connected to internet, will open web pg, then somewhere several minutes later it drops the connection, sometimes for 45 sec, sometimes for several minutes. I've run anti spyware, done system restore x2, uninstalled last 3 programs installed, run registry cleaner any ideas?

Have you tried updating the driver for this device on you pc? I have heard alot of complaints about these things.
From everyone I've talked to and read about, the ONLY fix is a firmware update which you can only get from the company.
These things work ok for large files but always loose connectivity with smaller file transfers. I recommend contacting company and have them email you a firmware update for your device

Purchased new linksys wireless N router. letss me connect to wireless but can't surf web or connect to web . lIKSYS SAYS TO BUT AN usb connector that will talk to router???? Has to be better fix

Have you done any configuration on it ? Or did u just plug it in and connect to it ?

You may need to log into the router to configure certain settings it needs to connect to the internet (the settings to connect to your Internet Service Provider) ie: PPPoE

Assuming your on a Windows PC -

Open a Command prompt
Type IPCONFIG

Notice the Default Gateway IP Address.....likely close to 192.168.1.1

Type whatever shows as the default gateway into your web-browser and it should bring you to a configuration page.

Have an acer Aspire One netbook and for some reason I cannot connect to the internet even though it is saying that a wifi connection has been established. This has never happened before

If you are connecting on an open WiFi (does not have WEP or WPA enabled), then make sure you are connected to the correct SSID (wireless ID) and not on some other open SSID. If you are on the right SSID, check that you don't have limited connectivity due to low signal strength. If OK, then open Internet Explorer to use its Diagnose Connection Problems tool...
1. click on Tools tab
2. click on Diagnose Connection Problems...
3. click on Next button and follow the steps
If unsuccessful, try powering off the wireless router and the cable/dsl modem for a few minutes and then powering up the modem first followed by the wireless router. Once the netbook has re-established the WiFi connection, repeat the above procedure to Diagnose Connection Problems. Finally, if still unseccessful, connect directly to your wireless router using an ethernet cable from one of the four RJ-45 LAN ports on the router to the netbook's 10/100 ethernet RJ-45 port on its left side. A LAN connection icon should now show in the bottom right of the Desktop's Toolbar. Hovering the mouse cursor over it shows the Local Area Connection pop-up with Speed and Status. If Status is connected, then open Internet Explorer again and use its Diagnose Connection Problems tool to check connectivity to the internet. If still unresolved, the next step would be to log into the router to check its WAN status and depending on the results, you may have to contact your Internet Service Provider.

How do I connect the router to the computer? does the computer need to be connected to the internet at the same time? does the USB adapter needs to be plugged in for the set up?

1) Choose a convenient location to begin installing your router such as an open floor space or table. This does not need to be the permanent location of the device. Particularly for wireless routers, you may find it necessary to re-position the unit after installing it as the cables / signals may not reach all areas needed. At the beginning, its better to choose a location where it's easiest to work with the router and worry about final placement later.

2) Plug in the router's electrical power source, then turn on the router by pushing the power button.

holygrass_1.jpg (Optional) Connect your Internet modem to the router. Most network Modems connect via an Ethernet cable but USB connections are becoming increasingly common. The cable plugs into the router jack named "WAN" or "up link" or "Internet." After connecting the cable, be sure to power cycle (turn off and turn back on) the modem to ensure the router recognizes it.

4) Connect one computer to the router. Even if the router is a wireless model, connect this first computer to the router via a network cable. Using a cable during router installation ensures the maximum reliability of the equipment. Once a wireless router installation is complete, the computer can be changed over to a wireless connection if desired.

5) Open the router's administration tool. From the computer connected to the router, first open your Web browser. Then enter the router's address for network administration in the Web address field and hit return to reach the router's home page.

Many routers are reached by either the Web address "http://192.168.1.1" or "http://192.168.0.1" Consult your router's documentation to determine the exact address for your model. Note that you do not need a working Internet connection for this step. And do call your Internet service provider for the default settings such as "MTU" "VCI" "VPI"

Tip:
When connecting devices with network cables, be sure each end of the cable connects tightly. Loose cables are one of the most common sources of network setup problems.

It connects and but time with very slow and show

It's always difficult to troubleshoot wireless because the signal can be effected by so many different variables. Easiest thing would be to connect another wireless device. If that works OK then it's your computer or wireless adapter. If that drops out too then it's your wireless router. When we find out what's at fault we can find a more detailed solution if you' be kind enough to post back.

I am trying to use the usb adaptor with a compaq presario computer with windows XP, and a router that i got with AT&T. i remember it working once, but i cant remember how to set it up. everytime i...

Te first thing you should do is remove all power from the AT&T devices (modem, router, etc) for at least ten minutes. This will do several important things.
1. It will force your ISP (AT&T) to drop all connections to and from their router to the DSL modem.
2. It will force your ISP (AT&T) to re-establish the connection to the DSL modem.
3. It will force the DSL modem to clear all RAM and reload its default configuration when power is re-applied.
4. It will force the wireless router to clear all RAM and reload its configuration information when power is restored.
The 10 minutes is not arbitrary, some Motorola DSL modems supplied by AT&T have a specified 8 minute memory backup capability.

Wireless connection works and then disconnects itself

look for a program on the web called Net Stumbler
It should be here http://www.stumbler.net/
That will show the signal level from your router.
I have seen this before and it could be several different problems
1. Someone else on your channel
2. Burned out ant or output section in the router
3. Broken Ant wire in laptop

Hope this helps
