Why when i power up i get a ,, missing operating syst

This issue may occur if one or more of the following conditions are true:
  • The basic input/output system (BIOS) does not detect the hard disk.
  • The hard disk is damaged.
  • Sector 0 of the physical hard disk drive has an incorrect or malformed master boot record (MBR).
Check your BIOS or System Setup to see if it detects your hard disk drive.
If it does see your hard disk drive then follow these instructions to fix your master boot record (MBR)
windows XP XP Repair or Fix Master Boot Record Using Recovery Console
windows 7
Step one: Turn your computer on, booting from either your Windows 7 Installation DVD or Windows 7 System Recovery Disc. Remember, you may need to change the boot order inside your BIOS to have the your DVD drive boot first.
Step two: After the installation or recovery disc loads, if prompted, select your language settings and then continue. If you are using the installation DVD, when prompted by the following screen select Repair your computer.
Step three: The computer will take a moment now to scan itself for any Windows installations, after which you will likely be given a choice to select which installation you wish to repair. Select the appropriate Windows installation from the list and then continue. If by chance a problem is detected in one of your Windows installations at this initial stage, the system may also ask you if it can try to repair the problem automatically. It is up to you if you wish to let the system try to repair itself, but otherwise just select No. Step four: Once you have reached the System Recovery Options screen, as shown below, you will be faced with a list of choices that can aid you in repairing a damaged Windows 7operating systemicon1.png. If you wish to try the Startup Repair option first, it is often successful in automatically fixing many different start up issues, but in this article we will be using the Command Prompt option to resolve our problems manually. So, click Command Prompt to continue. Step five: Now sitting at the command prompt, enter the following command and then press enter:
bootrec.exe /FixMbr
While the above command does fix the MBR, and sometimes that is enough, there still might be an error with the system partition's boot sector and Boot Configuration Data (BCD). This might occur if you have tried to install another operating system alongside Windows 7, such as Windows XP. To write a new boot sector, try the following command: bootrec.exe /FixBoot

hope that helps

Tried to reboot from the factory setting F11, came back with Loading PBR 2...done. A disk read error occured Press Ctrl Alt Del to restart, did that but the same message appears.

this a error for Primary Boot record 2..and for some reason it could not get past this stage ..I guess yo will have to install it the classic way from a bootable disk ..and to install the drivers after by downloading them from the factory site ...THis will assure a 100% success in installing the operation system and will be faster than trying to fis the error..I got this problem before...
Or better just get to the dell support site ...and get a recovery disk ..My advice is to install the operation system manually and than to use the recovery disk to install the drivers all at once ..
If you do not have a installation (bootable) disk ...just try to download and burn (with nero ) a image from the Pirate bay torrent site ..
you will need a utorrent program for downloading image file from the site ...to locate one ..just make a search for it ..there are many available ...

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&ServiceTag=&SystemID=INS_PNT_6000&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=
here are the drivers you will need in case you manage to install a clean OS from the disk ..
remember before using a bootable disk go to bios and set the boot order to have the cd/dvd as the first boot device and save changes with F10..
after that just restart with the disk inside..confirm the action and go for it ...

Keep getting burning error

Make sure your burn speed is set to match the maximum or lower speed for your burner and media being used. Close all other unused programs so there is less interaction with the hard drive during the burning session. Run disk defragmenter (Click: Start/All Programs/Accessories/Disk Defragmenter) and see if your hard drive could use defragmenting.

Looking at the reviews of this product reveal it to be a less than stellar piece of hardware.

I have a cpu with windows xp and it wont go past the splashscreen

Please try the following:
1.
  • Click the start button
  • Right-click "My Computer" and select "Explore"
  • Right-click the disk (your primary hard disk, most probably should be the "C" drive) and select "Properties"
  • In the properties dialog click the tab "Tools"
  • Click "check now"
  • The "checking disk" dialog appears, check both options and click start
  • You will probably see a message that chkdsk wants exclusive access to the disk and therefore wants to begin first thing after you restart your computer. Accept by clicking ok.
  • Restart your computer
When your computer restarts you will see chkdsk advancing through several different stages of verification, examining your hard disk. If it detects no errors, Windows will continue to start to your normal desktop. If there are errors, chkdsk presents a report with what it has done and waits for your confirmation.
2. If the above doesn't solve your problem, repair the windows xp by doing as is given on the page at http://www.theeldergeek.com/repairing_windows_xp.htm (please see instructions under section "Windows Installation CD - Repair Current Installation:")

CD Burning gets stuck

Try this: : Decreasing the burn speed If the drive is not recognizing the disc at all, skip to Step 4. Decrease the CD writer's burn speed by half to increase the likelihood of a successful burn. Decreasing the burn speed is a quick, easy way of increasing successful disc burning sessions, at the expense of taking more time to create a disc. The following steps are for Windows XP only. For Windows 98 and Me, decrease the write speed from within the software that you are using to write discs (RecordNow, Easy CD Creator)
  1. Click Start , and then My Computer .
  2. Right-click the drive icon, and select Properties .
  3. Select the Recording tab and reduce the Current Write Speed by half (for example, from 16x to 8x).
  4. Click OK and close the My Computer window. Try burning a CD. If the drive fails to create the CD, go to the next step.
Step 4: Setting up disc recording in Windows XP If the computer does not have Windows XP, skip to Step 6. If you are using Windows XP, use the following steps to ensure that native burning is enabled:
  1. Place a blank disc into the drive. NOTE: If the error <drive letter> is not accessible. Incorrect function. " opens, close it and continue using these steps to correct this problem.
  2. Click Start , and then My Computer .
  3. Right-click the writable drive icon, and select Properties .
  4. If a Recording tab is shown, select the Recording tab, select Enable CD recording on this drive , and then click OK . Try burning a disc again. Continue to the next Step if you are unable to burn a disc. If a recording tab is not shown, continue using these steps. Figure 2: Enable CD recording on this drive c00368150.gif
  5. Look for a Recording tab: If the Recording tab is not shown, Windows XP has not detected the drive as a recordable device. Use the following sub steps to enable the Recording tab:
    1. Click Start , Run , and type regedit in the Open field.
    2. Backup the registry: Select My Computer from the list, click File , Export , type a name that you will remember, and click Save .
    3. Click OK , and browse to the following registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CD Burning\Drives
    4. Click the Volume key that matches the CD/DVD drive that is capable of writing discs. If only one drive is installed, one volume key is listed. If you have more than one drive, examine the data values (by double-clicking them in the right pane) to find the correct drive.
    5. With the volume key selected in the left pane, double-click the Drive Type value in the right-pane. Figure 3: Drive Type registry value (CDRW) c01367502.jpg
    6. Type the number 1 in the Value Data field if the drive is capable of recording to CDRW discs (including CD-R discs). Type a 2 if the drive cannot write to CDRW discs but can burn CD-R discs. NOTE: A value of 3 indicates that the drive is only capable of reading discs. Changing this value to a 1 or 2 enables Windows to view the drive as a recordable drive.
    7. Click OK , and close Registry Editor.
