Keep the bottom of your freezer free from ice. ... The water from the melted ice and frost drains through a short tube and into a pan beneath the refrigerator, where it evaporates. Should the drain line become clogged, the water has nowhere to go and it freezes, forming a layer of ice in the bottom of your freezer.

Our Whirlpool upright freezer has a sheet of ice in bottom at drain--why?

Melt it again, and check it runs down the small drain hole, If not, clear the hole with a drinking straw. If it keeps freexing up, you may need an auxiliary heater added to the drain hole.

I have a Kelvinator impressions series 390 fridge(no freezer) it keeps icing up and then thawing all over the floor. I have it set just left of "Mid". Can you help,it is driving me crazy!!!

There should be a drain tube that allows the freezer to drain into a pan under the freezer. Over time, the drain tube can become plugged with dust and food debris. Try clearing the tube and it may just take care of itself.

Recently noticed ice accumulation in bottom of freezer below the bin. broke up & removed ice sheet of 1/4 to 3/8 in thick. also removed ice from ledge above bin that also has drain hole on left side....

You have a clogged drain. Usually I remove the ice, take a screwdriver and tap it into the drain hole. Then I pour hot water down it until I see that the water is draining all the way out.

Icemaker keeps freezing up after a couple of weeks of using then it becomes clogged with frozen ice int mechanical part of the icemaker

The water inlet valve on the back of unit opens when the ice maker needs water. If the valve doesn't seal good because of sediment or wear it will continue to drip and when the water reaches the ice maker supply tube it will freeze blocking the fill tube.. You can take the water line off the valve and watch to see if it drips.

Freezer has 1/4" ice on bottom, everyhing in freezer solid rock.

Your freezer should have a drain located in the bottom rear, usually behind an access panel that allows water to drain into the pan under the unit during the defrost cycle. If this drain becomes plugged, the defrost water has no place else to go but into the bottom of the freezer and turn into a block of ice. Clear the ice and poor hot water down the drain. You may also want to fish something (I use 1/4" water line) down the drain until the end gets to the pan underneath just in case there was something more solid stuck in the drain.

The bottom of my Vicking freezer keeps getting Ice build...

you need to remove the plastic tube that the water goes through . then take small saw and cut the flat part of the tube completely off . then slide the the plastic tube back in the bottom of freezer . apply a bead of silicone around the top of the plastic pipe (where you cut of the flat piece) so that the water does go into the insulation. whats happening - that flat piece sits up about a 16" too high at times and this causes a small pooling of water that becomes worse over time.... if you still continue with this problem take a short piece of 16 gauge wire wrap it around the calrod defrost heater a few times and insert the rest in your drain hole. this will heatup everytime a defrost occurs . which then melts the ice

Whirlpool refrigerator with top freezer either model GR2 or 9FHTXT will not keep get cold

Sounds like the defrost drain has become iced over or clogged. This is why the ice builds up.
