When i download yahoo messenger 10 it says, "Yahoo messenger is unable to download files needed for installation. please check firewall settings and retry installation."

You need the following OS to support Messenger
Windows 2000 / XP / 2003 / Vista / XP64 / Vista64 / Windows7
If that is not an issue read on.
Make sure your IE is up to date (IE 8) - even if you run another browser as default. IE is coded with Yahoo Messenger
If you do use another browser - check that IE is not set to 'Work Offline' under 'Tools' and has a red X through globe allowing it Internet access
The problem is probably due to a mal-function of the uninstall software. The Yahoo Messenger uninstall software is notorious for leaving files and fragments behind creating conflicts with the incoming software
Close all programs when uninstalling / downloading and uploading.
If you tried to uninstall the old Yahoo Messenger program from the Control Panel and failed to back it up with a visit to the 'C' drive, you may have old software conflicting with the incoming software trying to share the same folder. These conflicts will be enough for the firewall to hoist a red flag
If you have Vista the whole Messenger folder should have been removed during the uninstall.

You can disable your firewall setting when its hard trying to download Yahoo Messenger.

How to do that? Try this:

1. On your windows, click Start.
2. Click Control Panel
3. Double click Windows Firewall
4.On the General tab, select OFF(not recommended) and click OK

That's it! Your firewall setting is disabled and you can download yahoo messenger without being stopped by a message error.

Firewall stops me using yahoo messenger

Uninstall or disable any security software running on your computer. Try restarting your computer in safe mode with networking and then installing. If all of the above doesn't works and still you were getting message for firewall then either disable your Router's firewall by opening Router's page or Bypass router for a while and connect directly to Modem and then Install.

I have turned off every firewall setting that I can find in my PC but can't reinstall yahoo messenger

Firewall settings should not have to be adjusted to download Messenger.
You need the following OS to support Messenger
Windows 2000 / XP / 2003 / Vista / XP64 / Vista64
If that is not an issue read on.

The problem may be due to a mal-function of the uninstall software.
Close all programs when uninstalling / downloading and uploading.
If you tried to uninstall the old Yahoo Messenger program from the Control Panel and failed to back it up with a visit to the 'C' drive, you may have old software conflicting with the incoming software trying to share the same folder.
If you have Vista the whole Messenger folder should have been removed during the uninstall.
Check
Start > Computer >> Local drive (C) >> Program Files >> Yahoo >> Messenger. - The Messenger folder should have been deleted and not seen. If the Messenger folder is still visible - delete it.

If you have a pre-Vista OS, the Messenger folder remains, and inside, only one sub-folder should be seen. This is the 'Profile' folder and contains all the message history. All other software should have been deleted.

Manually delete any other folders and files before moving on

Download 'ccleaner' and run it through until clean, using the 'Run cleaner' control.

Am trying to download and being told there is problem with the firewall

You should check your firewall. It's in the control panel under windows firewall.Or, Try downloading the full installer of Yahoo Messenger (see link below) and save it to your desktop. It comes directly from a yahoo server and by-passes the web installer that most use and some have issues with (though often they can be avoided) on Windows Vista right click the full installer and choose “Install as Administrator”.

I cannot login in my yahoo messenger, an error occur contact tech

Log in problems
here are some suggestions you should check/try if you haven't already.

1. The date on your computer needs to be set properly -- double click the clock verify that
the time and date are set.
2. If your password information is not saved, verify that you are typing it in with the
correct case (uppercase or lowercase).
3. Change your password to something smaller (under 10-12 characters), then try signing in again.
4. If you use a firewall (like ZoneAlarm, Norton Internet Security,WindowsFirewall etc. ), it's possible
that Messenger doesn't have the correct rights to access the Internet, especially since you
upgraded. You may need to re/add Messenger to the allowed list of programs in your firewall
if this is the case.
5. If you disabled your firewall in the past, it still may be blocking Messenger -- try
restarting it and see if that helps the situation. You also might try uninstalling an
installed firewall, to verify that it isn't causing a problem (even if it is disabled).
6. Clear your IE cache and cookies -- open Internet Explorer, click the Tools menu, then
Internet Options, then click the Delete Files button, and when that's complete click the
Delete Cookies button.
7. Check your IE Security settings -- open Internet Explorer, click the Tools menu, then
Internet Options, then Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section, and verify that "Check
for server certificate revocation" is unchecked. Also verify that 'Use SSL 2.0' and Use SSL
3.0' is checked, then click OK.
I recommend using 8.1

You need to remove version 9,or present version, 1st to get another version to work. To remove Messenger version Use Unwise located middle of page of Messenger Folder.Make sure Automatic is checked! then continue to uninstall..Or use control panel ,Vista-program features or XP-add/remove this is the 2nd best way. If you just delete the Yahoo file to remove messenger, you will also lose the shared file that contains things needed on other Yahoo sites. Your contacts are stored online But if you want to save your old messages archives, they are saved on your PC in the messenger file you are about to delete.Go here and copy them to a new folder

Yahoo messanger installation

Problem:
"Yahoo messenger is unable to download files needed for installation. Please check firewall settings and retry installation"

Solution:

Hi,

I tried to solve this. I went through alot of forums. I uninstalled Yahoo messenger and tried installing new one. I downloaded and pressed "Run as an administrator" when i got this response

"Yahoo messenger is unable to download files needed for installation Please check firewall settings and retry installation."

I did the following:
Turned of Windows Firewall( Search )
Uninstalled Yahoo messenger
Downloaded New One
Used CCLEANER to clean the computer. Download CCLEANER from www.filehippo.com

Then I checked INTERNET EXPLORER:

Tools->Internet Options->Connections->LAN Settings -> Click on Automatically Detect Settings (Unclick everything else except this option) ->Apply -Ok

Check if www.yahoo.com opens in Internet Explorer.

Now Install Yahoo Messenger.
It should work.

Thanks
