    Hi Mike,

    Really appreciate you reply.

It is not a ROM drive. It is a DVD RAM RW drive.

I have already tried to uninstall the drive. On re-booting, the device is automatically reinstalled.

The problem is not that it is not reading cd it has just finished writing. The problem is only that it is not reading cds which are running on other systems... and which were read by this drive too some time back.

If the problem is of the laser malfunctioning, then no cds should have been read at all. How is the drive able to read all original software cds?

Pl Do help me with this.

This could be several causes. is it a dvd Rom Drive ??
first this could be software related. i.e which program is stating that it,s a blank cd ( windows or another program ? ) i.e nero or similar ?
try uninstalling the device ( DVD ) in control panel/system/device mansger. re-boot the computer and it should state. new device/harware found and ask for a driver.
If this does,nt work theres a chance that if you are using packet writing software, the disks are not finalising, hence they will not be recognised, as the T.O.C table of contents are not being written to the disk ( Finalizing )
Finally the read laser could be out of alignment or not powering up suffiently to read, other formats.
Hope this guides you to some success.

    Ok,

i,d just change the drive altogether.

    they,re cheap enough today.

in comparisson to your problem, when a PS2 is modified.

Usually you have to tweak the power of the laser up, to read a backup disk. therefore the laser would have to be more powerful to read that disk. you may have a weak laser that can read original disks fine, but struggles reading backups.

The only other suggestion i have for you, is to try a different media ( Blank CD/DVD ) some readers just don,t like certain disks. if none of this does,nt work. Bin it and get another drive,

I am unable to read any cd/dvd in my ATAPI DVD DH16A6L SCSI dvd ROM, checked in device manager there shows no problem.

Hi arunp_1995,

  • If you are unable to read any CD or DVD in your DVD -RAM drive , the this could be an indication of a bad lens , or a lens that required clearning.
  • I would suggest you to get a lens cleaner from the market and use it to clean the lens, by just inserting it in the drive , letting it spin for some time , and then removing it.
  • After you go through this lens cleaning process you can test your DVD-RAM drive , whether it's reading any disks or not , if yes then , problem is resolved, if no , then I would suggests you to connect the DVD-RAM to your friend's computer and check if it's working or reading your cds and dvds, if not then you need to get it replaced within the warranty period if the drive is still under warranty , or get a replacement, as it could be that repairing would cost you almost around the cost for a new drive.

My matshita dvd ram uj85 can not read any dvds.it always stated as a blank disc, or need to format dialog always appear..help me...

dampen a q-tip with glass cleaner and gently wipe off the laser on your cd drive. After that then try different dvds, cds, etc. If it still can't read anything then the laser is bad and the whole drive would have to be replaced.

I can not be abel to read writed CD

These discs that are written on other systems, were they finalized or are they multi-sessions discs that have been left open? Some drives have difficulty dealing with multi-session discs created by other drives. By telling it it is OK to format the CD, it is writing a new TOC (Table of Contents) that is blank since it did not see anything on the disc previously (so it didn't know there was anything to carry over from previous sessions). Now all other drives that try to read this disc are now reading an empty TOC and figure it is a blank CD.

You can try writing a disc on another computer and making sure it finalizes it, then try reading it with your laptop. You can also try to burn data to a CD on your laptop making sure the disc is finalized and try to read it on another computer to verify these suspicions.

Drive cant write any disc

If the unit was working ok and suddenly the unit stop to read the blank disk, the problem could be related to a dirty lector (need to clean) or unit firmware (need to be updated)
In that case you can update your firmware here:

http://drivers.softpedia.com/progDownload/Matsushita-DVD-RAM-UJ-840S-104-Download-14615.html

***************************************************************************************
Remember

1) You have to use a blank "recordable disk" to allow your drive write a disk
2) Not all disks are compatible
3) Try differents brand
4) Clean your drive lector
5) Update your firmware

i would uninstall and reinstall all drivers if you still have the original manufacturer cd, if not go to the website.. i had a similar issue but i got it to finally read the dvd's again.. if you changed your os system then it could be a compatibility issue..

you may also want to check the properties on the drive you are speaking of and make all the settings go to the default ones.. goto my computer and look for your drive, then right click on it to see properties and options to adjust settings to your drive..

it may not be dead yet, especially if it's not old.. hope this helps
