Question about Gateway FPD 1830 18.1" Flat Panel LCD Monitor
Screen worked fine, after moving screen was not used for several months and now won't work at all. The power light comes on, then no other sgn of life.
this web site talks about replacing 4 capacitors, which worked for me. takes you through how to do it step by step.
i would suggest first checking the fuse labeled F1, right next to the capacitors. with power plugged in you should read 12volts on both sides of this fuse, if not it is bad and is probably the problem. solution is to just connect both ends of this fuse with a wire soldered to each end. you won't have fuse protection, but alternative is to just throw away, so what do you have to lose. mine works fine after this fix.

The weakest spot in FPD1830 are four chip resistors located in the inverter board a bit above the middle, you can recognize them as they are bigger than others and located all four in one row. Holding by tweezers simply re-solder them to get rid of micro-cracks in the tin between pads and resistor contacts.
