How to turn on wirerless card on aspire 1640

take a look on the front edge ..it has 2 buttons ..and the one in the left is for to enable the Bluetooth and the one in the right ..near the headphones is for to enable and disable the wireless card ..keep it pressed for a few sec and when the wireless led it changes color it is enabled..(turn green or blue )..
If this button do not work ..check the card in device manager ..To get there ..click right on computer icon ..and select properties..and in the window opened select device manager (if you using xp ..select hardware and after that device manager )
In the device manager , take a look under the network cards...The wireless card need to be present and not having any ask signs or yellow marks ..If it does it is either not installed proper or it has a driver issue..and in thsi case you have to download the driver for it ..and reinstall it ...restart and enable the card either in the device manager by click right and enable ..or from the button ..or in the network folder ..(for this open the network folder and in the left click for change card settings ..and select the card and click right and enable )..
this is the support site in case you need the driver ..

What function keys do I use to get a wireless connection?

Have you tried using the function keys? There is a row of keys at the top labeled F1 though F12, they also have symbols. Find the one that looks like one of these, press and hold the function enable key that is like at the bottom of your keyboard and then select the button you found in the top row.

How do I turn on my WLAN on my Compaq Presorio CQ57?

Make sure the wifi card is installed and after that look for the wireless enable button ..It should be somewhere near the wireless indicator led..or ..sometimes it is hidden on the edge of the front side..Just press and the led should be blue when it is enabled or red if it is disabled..
Another way ..is just check in the device manager for the card to be installed and without any warning signs ..(right click on computer aka my computer ...and select properties and hardware and device manager or select directly device manager for windows 7 ..)in there look under network ..and if the wireless card is present and not having an ask sign in yellow it means it is functional ..
click right on it ..and select enable ..or ..close the manager and go to network places...and select the wireless connection ..and click right on it ..and select enable ..This will be equivalent of pressing the external enable button ..
It should make it present in the notification area..and you can select the network after making a scan for them ..
If nothing works..go to the hp support / downloads..select your model ..and operation system ..and download again the wireless card driver ..run it and restart it ..This should make it functional ..but also you have to check if it is enabled..
lets hope is js a matter of pressing the button and make it functional ..Good luck ..!

I have problems with my Dell wireless. I tried tried to install Linksys wireless. Now the linksys has been installed on my desktop. But i dont see any wireless networks on the systrayit is not connecting...

First--does your Dell have wireless capability? Most new computers do.
Next, is there a wireless switch that you must turn on--on the computer case?
Next--there is a Fn-Special function key combo that will turn on your wireless card. Did you press that combo?
Now look in you network connections--is there a wireless connection there and is it enabled?
You can also check in the device manager to see if the wireless card (under network devices) is there and is functioning. You may have to install or update the drivers.
Once you have installed or enabled the wireless device, you will see a wireless icon in the system tray.

Hiii all plz help me with this ... cant open my wirless network in my toshiba laptop ..always says "the wireless network device is disabled plz turn on the device" despite it is enabled how zat???? thnxx

The device may be enabled but is the radio switch in the "on" position. These are different. There is either a switch or keyboard combination that turns on the wireless radio. If everything is "on" then try this.

Windows WiFi Fix,
Windows Zero Wireless Configuration is one of the best programs to run a WiFi in Windows XP or Vista. Most of the other software packages that come with the different adapters have been poor at best in keeping a connection through Windows. Here is the best guide to get you back up and connected.
Windows XP:
Click Start
Right click on My Computer
When a window pops up click on properties
Click on the Hardware tab
Click Device Manager
Click the [+] next to Network Adapters
Find your wireless card and right click on it.
Click Disable
Windows may warn you that disabling the device may make it stop functioning.
Continue disabling the device.
Wait 30 seconds or so.
Right click on your wireless again and click Enable.
Exit the device manager.
Reconnect to your router.
You should now be able to connect to the internet.

Windows Vista:

Click Start Logo
Right Click Computer
Click Device Manager
Windows will ask you about opening Device Manager Click Continue
Click the [+] next to Network Adapters
Find your wireless card and right click on it.
Click Disable
Windows may warn you that disabling the device may make it stop functioning.
Continue disabling the device.
Wait 30 seconds or so.
Right click on your wireless again and click Enable.
Exit the device manager.
Reconnect to your router.
You should now be able to connect to the internet.

Wireless networking hardware not functioning properly.

Check on Device Manager if it is working properly

Right-click My Computer-Properties-Hardware-Device Manager
Click on the plus sign beside Network Adapter and double-click your wireless card.
Check on the device status if it says it's working properly.
Try to disable-enable the adapter by right-clicking on it under the device manager window.
If it has a question mark, it is most likely driver issues so contact your wireless card manufacturer or PC manufacturer if the wireless card is built in.
