Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

2 Answers

My sony vaio pcv-RX514 has maximum allowable RAM of 1GB in 2 slots (ie max of 512MB in each slot). I want it to go faster, so I put 1 GB RAM in each slot. When I powered it up an alarm sounded and the computer would not boot. So the questios is: 1. will putting above the max RAM for my pc boost its speed, or will it just not recognise it? 2. How can I find this out if an alarm sounds and it won't power up if I put 2GB ram in it?

I have fixed my new RAM in nice and tightly, so it is not loose fitting that is the problem.

alternatively is there any other way to boost the speed of my pc?

Your bios doesn;t support 2Gb RAM so it gives sound beep.
Make sure you fixed ram properly still you get beep sound then it not recognized in bios so you can't use 2 Gb ram on your laptop motherboard because it doesn't support it.
But before that also make sure both 1 Gb ram frequency speed and company are same it those different then you get that sound beep too.
Let me know if you need further assistance.

The answer for the first question is since your computer only supports a maximum of 1 GB RAM putting there 2 GIG of RAM will cause some problem on your system that;s why you heard a beeping sound and computer wont boot definitely. The system only support up to 1 GB of RAM so putting there 2 GB will cause some error on your system so when you power it on the system will try to read the 2 GB of RAM and that will create the beeping sound and it will cause further damage, Yes increasing the RAM of a computer will make it fast but just make sure you just put the maximum RAM adn don't exceed from it to avoid problem on the computer.

214-Dimm Config Warning

Just had same problem. Found a solution:
I have an old HP Compaq dc5000MT. It has 4 RAM slots
Here's what DIDN'T work:
1gb + 1gb + 512mb + 512mb
1gb + 512mb + 512mb + 1gb
512mb + 1gb + 1gb + 512mb
Here's what DID work:
1gb + 512mb + 1gb + 512mb
I'm sure that:
512mb + 1gb + 512mb + 1gb would probably work as well.
From my guess they're are 2 "channels" (slots 1&2 are channel 1, slots 3&4 are channel 2) and you have to keep the amount of RAM balanced on both slots and in the same order.
Another thing to note with the old XP OS. IT ONLY WORKS WITH 3GB or RAM. MAX. So 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 (4gb) WILL NOT WORK... PERIOD for XP. Vista, 7, 8 etc. allows you to use a ton more ram + readyboost. They need all the help they can get though since they are major resource hogs.

What is the max ram speed my pc can take

According to some research, your desktop has 4 RAM slots available. The total maximum RAM your desktop can hold is 2GB (2048MB). Furthermore, each slot can hold a maximum of 1GB (1024) but cannot exceed the 2GB total.
This means you can theoretically install 2 x 1GB RAM DIMMS in 2 RAM slots or 4 x 512MB RAM DIMMS. Both will meet the desktops 2GB limitation.
The RAM specifications for your desktop are as follows:
RAM Limit: 2GB (2048MB) RAM Slot Type: SO-DIMM RAM Type: DDR1 (not DDR2 or DDR3) RAM Speed: PC3200/DDR400 ECC Type: Non-ECC
TIP: The RAM is DDR which means that while you can install them as singles (single-channel mode), the system will see a speed benefit from installing them as matched pairs (dual-channel mode).

I want to upgrade my ram what type of ram should i use and how what is the maximum amount of ram i can upgrade to?

Hi,
Memory Upgrade for Sony VAIO PCG-K35 Laptop, the Sony VAIO PCG-K35 Laptop takes the PC2100 DDR SDRAM SODIMMs Memory Type, and comes installed with 512 MB = 256 MB (removable) + 256 MB (removable) of Memory. You can upgrade your Sony VAIO PCG-K35 Laptop to up to a maximum of 1.0 GB Memory, the system has 2 sockets to install Memory, already with 512 MB = 256 MB (removable) + 256 MB (removable) standard Memory installed. For best Laptop performance use the maximum amount of allowed Memory per slot for your Laptop.

Cant pick both RAM same time

hopefully you inserted two similiar 1 GB RAM memory devices by the same manufacturer into the right slots 1

you may have a board that:
- has four slots available (two + two)
- but supports only a maximum of 1GB (two similiar 512mb devices)
or
-supports only a max of 2 GB of the same kind and same manufacturer,

so inserting all u got and hoping the PC does the memory management might not work!

please see the mainboard manual (if u have one) or download it from the manufacturer's site.

Adding RAM

If it has 4 slots and supports 2Gb max with 2 slots currently populated with 2 x 256mb chips you'll need to remove both those chips and install 4 x 512mb chips to reach the max of 2 Gb.
