I have tried all of those things.I read that it is very rare for it to be a problem with the motherboard,so I have been trying everything.

  • tigertears31 Feb 06, 2010

There is no sound from the audio jack.

  • tigertears31 Feb 06, 2010

I did all of those repeatedly before ever getting on this site.Replacing the motherboard sounds like an expensive ordeal.

  • tigertears31 Feb 06, 2010

I tried doing that but I couldn't get in.The instructions said to start the computer and when the Windows logo comes up to press F1 until the BIOS screen comes up but it didn't work.

  • tigertears31 Feb 06, 2010

Is there a way to find out exactly which key I should be pushing? I am tired of restarting.

  • tigertears31 Feb 06, 2010

Okay, can you tell me more about this USB device? What exactly is it called and is there a certain kind I need?

  • tigertears31 Feb 06, 2010

Okay, well I am off to CompUSA because I don't want to wait for something to be shipped, but now I know what I am looking for.I will let you know if it works. Thanks!

  • tigertears31 Feb 07, 2010

If your laptop has an audio/headphone jack out then verify that there is sound being produced from this jack by using either headphones or external speakers. If you are getting audio out of that then there is a chance that the laptop speakers or amplifier is defective. If you do not get any sound from the headphone/audio jack then there could be a problem with the audio hardware. Verify that the audio output is not muted and all the volume controls are turned all the way up. You can also try going into the device manager and removing the audio device and then re-boot the computer and see if that brings the audio back. If that does not work or you have already tried that the it may in fact be a hardware issue. The audio hardware is built into the motherboard and would require motherboard replacement to fix the problem if that is the case. Let me know if you have any more questions or what you find.

It is rare but not impossible. So are you getting sound from the audio/heaphone jack? Or is there no sound at all?

  • muebe Feb 06, 2010

If there is no sound from the jack then I would assume that there is a problem with the audio hardware on the board. You could try rolling the audio driver back in the device manager to the previous driver in case Windows updated it and caused it not to work. Or you could also try using Windows restore to bring Windows back to a date when the audio did work. If you use Windows restore to bring the computer back to a date when you are certain that the audio did work and it does not bring it back then I would still point to the hardware. Also be aware sometimes programs that have been installed can disable device drivers and if you can remember if you installed any programs that might have caused the issue then un-install them and see if that brings back the audio.

  • muebe Feb 06, 2010

And also you can go into the BIOS settings and verify that the audio device has not been disabled for some reason and is enabled.

  • muebe Feb 06, 2010

You need to press it before the windows logo comes up...when the computer first starts up. Sometimes you need to press the delete key, or F5, or F1 depending on the manufacturer and BIOS program

  • muebe Feb 06, 2010

They do have a USB audio device that you can purchase. Then you can plug this device into the USB port to get audio from the computer if the audio hardware is defective. Replacing the motherboard is an option but might cost close to a $100 dollars plus you would need to install the new board. And the Windows might stop working because of the new hardware and a re-installation would be required.

  • muebe Feb 06, 2010

Try pressing F2 or F3 and see if that works

  • muebe Feb 06, 2010

Let me locate one for you and I will send you a link. One other option you have is to try and do a complete re-install of Windows to factory settings using the restore disks that came with the laptop. If that does not bring back the audio then the hardware is defective. Be aware you will lose all your programs/files so back everything up before you try this if you do.

    Here is one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...

This one can do 7.1 surround sound but would require headphones or an external amplifier like computer speakers/stereo. This would give you audio again from your laptop.

  • muebe Feb 06, 2010

And here is one for only $7.99 that just does standard 2 channel stereo http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...

  • muebe Feb 06, 2010

And this one is a portable speaker system for the laptop that you just plug into the USB port http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...

This one is a all-in-one with the speakers, amplifier, and device.

  • muebe Feb 06, 2010

No problem. If you just want something for basic sounds then buy something simple. If you use your laptop to watch movies, play games ect. then maybe step-up in function. Thanks for using fixya.

sounds like a driver conflict, uninstall any drivers for one of the devices and then restart machine, reinstall the driver you have just removed and try again.

Tip

To to reinstall a sound driver on your laptop

  1. Locate an installer for you original sound driver. This can be the biggest issue when one accidentally deletes a sound driver. Computers and sound cards come with driver CDs, but you may not be able to locate the original CD. If you can't find your driver CD, you will have to download the old driver from your computer manufacturer's website or from your sound card manufacturer's website. Use the device manager by right-clicking on My Computer, selecting Properties and then selecting the Hardware tab to look for sound, video and game controllers and to learn more about your sound device.
  2. Delete the currently installed sound driver before reinstalling the old one to avoid conflicts. To uninstall the driver, use the same device manager menu from Step One, select your sound device and click Properties. There should be an option under properties to uninstall the drivers.
  3. Run the auto installer on the original drivers. The installer will take you through several general steps, which will probably only require you to click Next a few times without changing any settings.
  4. Restart your computer when the driver installer is finished.

I purchased toshiba c660 laptop, sound cards not working. When i click voLUME CONTROL its showing THERE ARE NO MIXER DEVICE AVAILABLE. i checked services.msc its fine

Hi,

Thank you for choosing FixYa. Just to isolate the problem of your machine if its software or hardware, I suggest try to check the Device Manager and see if there is a conflict with the Driver. Try also to uninstall and reinstall the sound driver, try also to download the driver from the manufacturer's website and if still does not work, try to reinstall OS the last step that you have to do. If that step still does not work, it means that hardware is having a problem.

Hope it helps.

My computer having no sound

Without more detailed information, I always suggest to uninstall and reinstall the sound car via the device manager, reboot, and the drivers will be reinstalled. This tends to fix 90% of hardware issues that I've come across.

No sound my computer. i am instaled the audio driver realtech AC,97 but then open the music file my compter give me answare no sound driver in your computer.

1 Right click my computer.
2 Properties.
3 Hardware.
4 Device manager.
Check you have no yellow asterisks next to any of the sound, video and game controllers, if you have right click and uninstall. Reboot the system wizard should find new hardware and reinstall the driver correctly.
The computer may well be a Compaq but the sound card will be something else i.e., a sound blaster or something you need to know what card it is to get the correct driver.
If the sound has worked previously the computer should still have the correct driver in it and uninstalling and reinstalling should work.
Is the computer a laptop with a built in sound card or a workstation and you are trying to activate a sound card you have installed i.e., not the one built into the motherboard?
Compaq is normally a workstation not a laptop anyway let me know and I will try and advise you further.

I cant get the touch pad and mouse to respond long enough to change settings and not sure where to go to do that.

If mouse stops working shortly after booting up, sounds like driver conflicts, reboot and enter Safe Mode (normally press F8 on startup, but key may vary between systems) Drivers can normally not conflict with eachother in Safe Mode, Next enter Device Manager through the control panel and find your tochpad or mouse drivers, typically they will be marked with a yellow warning triangle if they are improperly configured or conflicted, rightclick and select uninstall, scan for hardware changes and let it automatically reinstall the touchpad or mouse drivers.

If driver still not working, there may be old, hidden drivers, some systems may be able to show these by pressing view->show hidden drivers in the device manager, older systems typically windows XP will have to run cmd.exe and type in the following lines to show the 'ghost' drivers:
SET DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES=1
DEVMGMT.MSC
this will start up device manager with added parameter, you must still enable 'show hidden devices'.

Note: it is pretty safe to uninstall drivers under the sections:
Keyboards
Mice and other pointing devices
Monitors
Network Adapters
Sound, Video and Game controllers
Storage Volumes
Universal Serial Bus controllers

However, understand the risks of uninstalling and editing system components, if you do not have a way to restore your system to factory settings, or reinstall your system completely, of if you have important information stored on the computer, you should thread extra carefull- hope for the best but prepare for the worst.

Resource conflict pci in slot 03 bus 06 device 04 acer aspire 5100

The conflicts happens when a two hardwares shares the same IRQ (Information reqiest). You will nto be able to use those devices. The best way to remove a confliction is to uninstall and reinstall that hrdware. Normally, it can be sound card and modem. At this point I suggest to unisntall Modem and Sound card drivers from the computer and reinstall it. To do so, go to Control panel>Add remove programs> search for sound and modem software and click unistall or remove.
To reinstall it> Click Start Menu> All Programs> Acer erecovery management> Restore> Reinstall Application & Drivers> Select the appropriate sound driver (Realtek) & modem. Install it one by one. (install the sound card first)

USB Audio Controller and Interface Won't Install on Dell 600m

This is generally caused by a driver conflict. Uninstall the sound drivers for the built in, then try to install the sound drivers for the RMX. If the hardware wizard finds and tries to install the drivers for both sound cards there may be a conflict, due to the drivers for the built in still being in the drivers cab file, then you will have to completely delete the driver file manually. Once you get the RMX drivers to load, you may have to create a seperate sound profile for the RMX, and switch to it manually when using it, in order to keep from creating a conflict between the two.

No,unless you want to upgrade your current soundcard i suggest continuing using your current one ..
Your problem is driver related, try installing your sound card drivers again .. if that doesn`t help you could uninstall your webcam drivers,it`s a software related problem so there`s no need for you to buy a new soundcard
