Question about Frigidaire Freezers
To start, this freezer has no automated defrost. The first thing to try is a complete defrost. This must be done as regular maintenance once a year or so.
Empty the freezer, disconnect power cord, and leave it to defrost for about 24 hours.
Defrost must be done even if there is no ice or cool inside the freezer.
If that will fix the problem , than it means that the poor cooling was caused by ice building up on condenser coil. That is called defrost problem.
If that does not fix the problem, and the freezer is still not cooling after full defrost, then the problem is the temperature control, a scarce refrigerant gas pressure, or a compressor issue.
A good thing thing to be tested would gas pressure. All the user can do is looking for visible leaks, or damage to coils and pipes. Gas pressure reading must be done by a technician using professional equipment.
The easiest thing to test among parts is the temperature control.
This is the thermostat located on one side of the fridge. The thermostat is tested disconnecting power, removing the thermostat, and reading Ohms on the part contacts. At room there must be zero Ohms or very low impedance. If the temperature control circuit is open, then the part must be replaced.
In a similar way you can also test the controller (PS426525 - Part 30 on diag 1) this is also a thermal control device integrating a relay. The control will start and stop the compressor, and must be closed at room.
When the controller is faulty, the compressor will not start.
If the compressor is slow to start, then the starting capacitor may need replacement. In this case the compressor may not start at all, or have a slow start that will impair cooling function.
Finally, if all other parts are good, then the compressor motor may be faulty. In that case the compressor will not start at all, or will usually make noise.
Most of this faults can only be fixed by an on-site technician. The compressor is also covered by a special warranty lasing many years.
For this reasons, the best thing to do would be contacting Frigidaire to find out how much of the repair they can cover.
Here all parts and diagrams.
