Question about Microwave Ovens

3 Answers

The self clean feature on my GE convection oven has never worked. (Unfortunately due to a lengthy remodel job, the warranty expired before I had a need to use the self-cleaning cycle). I follow the sequences in the manuel, but the door won't lock, and nothing happens.

It is not a microwave but a free standing range. It is a GE range with convection oven. Model number JBP84 80 H3BB or it could be JBP84 B0 H3BB. It is hard for me to tell the difference between 8 and B on the model.

My oven has been cold or I haven't used it in over several days before I tried to use the self-clean cycle. When I press self clean then the start button, and enter the time, it just shows "door" lit up and keeps beeping then turns off. As I said, it has never worked once since I purchased it, but the warranty had expired before I had a need to use it (self-clean feature).

    Hello,

I did not know how to reply. I have followed the sequence in the manuel, hit the self clean button, set 4 hours and then hit start. when I do that all the stove does is flash door while beeping and then it turns off. This is all it has done over the past 2 years. I have had to manually clean the oven all this time, not what I had intended buying this stove. The oven is always cold when I tried to do this (may not have been used in days)... I have even unpluggged the stove, checked the connections, and plugged it in again...to "reboot" it without any luck. Do you have any other suggestions?

    Thanks, Debbie

I had a look in the manual for your GE JPB84 oven. The most likely cause of the self cleaning process not being able to start, eg, door does not lock, etc. seems is that the oven has not cooled completely.

According to the GE troubleshooting website during self clean--

With most GE ranges, the oven door will not lock if it is warm from baking.
Be sure to let the oven cool down before attempting to latch the door for the self-clean operation.
Because of the heavy insulation around our self-cleaning ovens, it may take several hours for the oven to completely cool down.
After latching the door, the lock light may not glow until the cleaning process has been going for up to 30 minutes. This is because the lock mechanism does not engage until the oven has reached cleaning temperatures (approximately 600 degrees and higher). ......

Not sure if this is the cause of your problem. Please post a comment after checking it out. I will try to check for other causes. I also read on one of the repair forums that some GE ovens develop a problem with use of Self clean feature because the oven temperature can go very high (higher than during normal operation) and damage the controller board which is not well insulated. Cannot confirm if this can apply to your model. In any case something to keep in mind.

Good Luck.

Not sure why this problem is still coming up in the new problem list. I have already given you some suggestions and was waiting for you to provide your observations. Please post a comment to say if you read my suggestions and if so, is the problem still there.

Sorry about the earlier comment. The fixya.com system sometimes works differently to what it normally is meant to do. I could not see your new comments until I submitted my comment.

I notice you mention that you press the "self clean" button but did not mention if you press the "start" button after that. I think the oven is waiting for you to change the self clean time - default 4hrs if you press once and 3 hrs if you press twice. But you have to press the "start" button for it to commence.

Please reconfirm the sequence of steps you are using.

I cannot get my solution to go through the submit.

I hope you have received my postings.

I am not seeing my previous comments - something not going well with the fixya.com system.

What I was suggesting was that you press Self Clean button once - this will set it up for 4 hrs. Then press the Start button - nothing else after that. If you want to change the time then that should be done before you press Start button.

Let me know if you still cannot see Locked message coming. This could take upto 30 minutes according to the manual.

GE has the manuals for most of their appliances on their site: http://www.geappliances.com/service_and_support/literature/ . Just enter the model number and click Submit.
The direct link to the manual for the JVM1790 Over-the-Range Convection/Microwave oven is here: http://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=49-40480-1.pdf . GE only lists the JVM1790CK, JVM1790BK, JVM1790WK and JVM1790SK.

I hope this helps.

Problem with the GE Advantium (model sca1001fss01) Convection / Microwave Oven Everything works except the microwave. It makes a sound like its working, table turns, but does not heat or cook.

sounds like the magnetron. Youll have to have a technician replace it. if you have a warranty just call the company and they should take care of you.

Error code F5:E7 Can not get the oven door unlocked or reset this code. What do we do?

Beginner on forumn, don't have any manual in front of me on f5:e7. Sounds like a conventional oven problem, oven door locking. If in fact is some form of conventional heat oven (convection?), I had similar problem with a GE range, it flashed some kind of code seams like which I later interpreted by using owner's manual that explained codes. In my case it was in "cleaning mode" and you can't turn that off unless you unplug or turn breaker off, that puts it back to default mode with nothing running. I simply tried out the self cleaning feature, from there the oven went to full on heat and oven door locked unexpectedly. I learned stays locked till cycle finishes and oven cools, which is some time after the oven automatically switches off, said that it can be a couple of hours before you hear a...click, and now door opens (note to self, don't ever do that again).

Sharp R-1871 microwave/convection oven. Microwave will not work

This may be due to the microwave section not working. Check the high voltage diode if it is ok, replace the Magneton.

Sparks ae flying in my microwave

GE in essence says it is unrepareable and insafe. I suggest that would be saying it is trash.I don't know what that carboard is, possibly indulation? Ot may have /be a a oiece oce of laminated metal like some paper plates have..Not replaceable is a poor answer. Call them back and make a fuss. If it's not too far over warranty, they may work with you to shut you up.. oops, sorry, to pacify you.
:-) Good luck.

Kenmore microwave/convection

That's not the full model number, but the 363 prefix tells me it's made by GE.

For GE models, the F3 fault code means a bad or failing keypad, even though yours may be intermittent for now.

Once it fails solidly, you can order a new keypad. It's not too hard a job for the DIYer.

Feel free to contact me directly for tips on doing the job: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

You would need the full model number from the tag on the microwave.

You can enter that model number to find helpful exploded views and order parts here: http:///www3.sears.com (the 3 is correct)

We're happy to help and we appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.
