As you know, there are two belts - the pulley device between the motor and the brush roller is the sensor that measures the drag on the brushes and operates the automatic height adjuster to maintain constant drag. To the left of that double pulley (viewed from the front) is the electronic circuit board - note that it has a sensor that locates within the pulley device, be careful not to damage it.

At the left end of the motor cover, the drive cog is concealed by a small cover. Lift this cover out vertically, noting how it locates in the frame for when you come to put it back. Next, although not essential, it helps to remove the metal lever because if it falls out when you're not looking you may later be uncertain about how to locate the small coil spring. So slide that lever out towards the motor, noting how the spring locates.

NEXT: Undo the two screws holding the circuit board (take care the washers don't slip away). Then undo the four screws holding the double pulley. Once that's free, you'll be able to change the belts.
Re-assembly is simply the reverse of the above process.

I have a new eureka vacuum AS1101 and the roller brush wont spin. The S belt doesn't look worn. When the clutch is engaged the second smaller toothed belt doesn't run. Are the larger and smaller pulley...

The answer is you small wheel that is burned or melted is a result of having the carpet height setting too low for surface being vacuumed. Because of that, it causes the brush assembly drive to work harder. The smaller of the two wheels has..had a piece of plastic to hold it against the shaft to allow it to turn. It will have melted off and will not spin. The belts and even the other larger wheel will work, but just not engage the smaller and allow the brushes to turn. The part needed does not sell by itself, you would need to purchase the on/off wheel assembly. OEM Part # 84708. It is about $30 on amazon shipped. new-eureka-vacuum-as1101-roller-brush-imoup3n5z40rufpnmkir3rab-3-2.jpg

How do I replace the smaller belt that attaches to the brush

Hello! Follow the steps below to replace the v-belt on your Hoover.

1. Slide flat belt off large pulley.
2. To remove v-belt, slide back of belt over pulley. Then firmly pull on belt and snap it off. Discard used belt.
3. To install new belt (with lettering on outside of belt) slide back of belt over pulley and pull front of belt toward groove next to pulley. Belt will pop into place.
4. Insert brush-roll through belt and position belt in groove on brush-roll.

Hi I have a dirt devil vision. Hose works, but does not vacuuming the floor. Belts are not broken. Larger belt is moving, smaller belt that moves the brushes does not.

hi krueger, sorry for the problems but hers an idea how about turning on the vacuum and put your hand under the part where it sucks uo the dirt off the floor and i guessing you would have a little suction, since the brushes are not moving its going to not pick up as well as it should my guess is that the belts need to be replaced even if one is moving, i would change both belt to be sure and also are you smelling a burning smell if so then that would prove fact to needing new belts, hope this helps, Jamie

The small belt attached to the roll brush keeps slipping off. It's a brand new belt and the vacuum is only 1 yr old.

The small belt rarely gives the problem you describe. The larger belt can jump off if the belt is worn or if th roller gets caught on something suddenly. The belt should be replaced every 9 - 12 months. If your carpet setting is too low this will cause the belts to wear faster that the estimated given time

MY VACUUM IS NOT PICKING UP

Hi This is quite complicated but I'll try and simplify this for you:
If this is a Panasonic upright then there are two drive belts as you know. Once you take off the sole plate (where the beater bar is) by undoing screws and the beater bar is looking at you, you would have to take off the smaller belt motor pulley first before putting on a new larger drive belt. If the smaller belt is still intact and you only need to replace the larger belt, you'll still have to take off both belts to put on the new drive belt.
Motor pulley belt has to be taken off first then the old drive belt, then grasp the beater and slide on new larger drive belt before having to attach the motor pulley belt and then the larger belt onto the motor pulley. Once all belts have been attached ensure that the beater bar is pushed in correctly before you screw the sole plate back on.

Replaced the belts on Hoover WindTunnel U6473-900/brush won't tur

There is a belt tensioner that maybe not contacting the belt when you tilt the handle back, It is either jammed and not moving up and down freely or it is broke. Look down below the belt, there should be a small wheel, that has to contact the belt.

I replaced the belt on the vaccum cleaner for the brush and it just seems too loose. How do I tighten it? Do you have a diagram I can look at. I lost my instruction booklet.

try using a smaller belt from a different manufacturer. not to much smaller. you dont want it to be extreamly tight just get one slightly smaller and try that. it dosnt have to be made by hoover. as long as it is not wider or thinner just about the same width and slightly smaller. i do it all the time with my vacuums to save money

Bissell carpet cleaner brushes won't turn

Make sure you have released the handle, as if you wanted to push the machine forward. If the handle is locked upright, the brushes do not spin.

If they still don't spin, you may have a broken belt. Look carefully at the base, on each side. As I face the front of mine, on the right side of the machine, a small belt goes around one brush and a small cog wheel. On the left side, a larger belt goes around both brushes. If either belt is broken, the brushes will not spin. This can happen if you let gunk build up inside the clear plastic side pieces or around or above the brushes. It's very important to constantly be cleaning your Bissell. The belts can be ordered online and replaced. See your owner's manual.

Brushes won't turn

Sounds like you have broken belt. I had the same thing happen, Got replacement belts, but can't figure out how to get the smaller belt back on. There two larger belts - one on each end of the brushes under the clear plastic covers. On the left side there a single silver metal gear, but nothing to hook up the other end of the small belt to drive the brushes. If you take yours apart let me know how to hook up the smaller belt.

Thanks,
David Wood
