I don't know the old key, I do know the new key which I set after you telling me to reload edata. I have now set edata up on a couple of machines and moved files between them, and it would seam that the key is in the file itself

    i.e a will work on a & b with a's key and vise-vera

    but a won't work on b with b's key.

so a is taking its key with it.

    Does this help?

  • avgs24 Feb 09, 2010

No, It would seam that the data is lost, thanks any way.

Actually i want to know that whether you have the encryption key which was used for encrypt your data. If you lost your encryption key, then there is no option to retrieve the data. If you have reloaded the OS, then new encryption key will generate and you can't decrypt the data using new key as the data been encrypted using different key.

Note: It is always better that keep or backup your encryption key.

For encryption, there will be 2 keys i.e. 1 private key and 1 public key. Using public key you can decrypt the same from other system. if you have the public key, then try to decrypt your data.

Hi.

The first thing you can try is doing a system restore to a date before the new password was set. This may already fix the problem.

You find System restore from Start button menu, on:
Programs>Accesories>System tools>System Restore.

If that does not work, please follow the instructions below given from Aegis representative:

"We are currently working on a password recovery system, but in the meantime please follow the instructions below:
The Supervisor Password is used to grant access to the Personal Secure Disk and decrypting files if the individual file encryption password is forgotten. The Supervisor Password can be used to decrypt any encrypted files in the system, so it is very important to keep it secure, and cannot be recovered if you have forgotten it.

The only method available to reset your Supervisor Password is by reinstalling Acer eDataSecurity Management (see below).

Note: If you were using the Personal Secure Disk (PSD), any data that you stored in it will not be accessible as your Supervisor Password was the key to access it. If the password was recoverable it would deem our software insecure.

Actions required:
1. Uninstall Acer eDataSecurity Management

Go to Start > Control Panel, and then double click on "Programs and Features". To uninstall the program select "Acer eDataSecurity Management" from the list and select the "Uninstall" button.
Reboot your computer

2. Install Acer eDataSecurity Management

Acer eDataSecurity Management is available for download in the support section of the Egis Global website: http://www.hiegis.com/support/download.do

Operation Guide (How to install):
1. Download Acer eDataSecurity Management V2.5.4348.
2. Extract ".exe" file from the zip file.
3. Run the setup file.
4. Follow the instructions on screen to complete the installation.

How to reinstall the acer edata security data management.

To reboot the system click on Start and then on the shutdown menu choose restart or shutdown.
If this error happens with a bluescreen and white writing then you will have to press the power button for about 5 seconds to force it to shutdown.
To reinstall the eData software use the Acer software CD that came with your computer to reinstall it or download it from Acer :
http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_5520.html

Select it from the Empowering Technology and Utilities section.

Good Luck

Acer eData Security Management

I have searched the Acer website and the user guide for your model and can find no reference to the edata software referenced. I think that a system restore is what you need. Per the manual press alt-f10 to enter the utilities and create a system restore cd and an application restore cd reboot with the system cd and restore the computer to a factory fresh condition. Remember that no user data will be saved so if you have documents or pictures etc. make a copy first. Good Luck
