Sears 1/2 HP 139.539705SRT - Repair Worm and Drive Gears

I need repair instructions to replace the worm and drive gears which are stripped. I've bought the parts from Sears but they didn't have any manuals available to offer. Thanks.

There are no adjustments for this machine. Chances are that the plastic gear that is driven by the worm gear has a spot that is worn down and when worm gear hits this spot, it does not drive . Replacing gear is the only remedy. Good luck.

Mixer noisey and not going round freely

Your mixer most likely has a stripped gears, or a combination of stripped gears. The 5kpm5ewh is an international model similar to the ksm5. The gearing inside the mixer will be the same, some of the electrical parts may differ.
Your mixer has a nylon worm gear inside, this is the most common gear to strip inside the mixer. I would recommend opening the mixer and inspecting all of the gears before you place an order.

Most likely you will need the worm gear, which is available by itself (http://www.mendingshed.com/kawormgear.html) or you can get it in the whole worm drive pinion gear assembly (http://www.mendingshed.com/kitchenaidgearassy.html) the whole assembly is a lot easier to replace, and will save you a lot of time. You may also need to replace the grease inside your mixer, KitchenAid recommends the Benalene 930-2 food grade grease, it is only available in a 30oz can (http://www.mendingshed.com/kagrease.html) And you will also need to replace the gearbox gasket (http://www.mendingshed.com/mixergasket.html).
To aid you in your repair, here is a link to the KitchenAid service manual (http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/mendingshed/kitchenaidservicemanual.pdf) This will walk you through how to take apart the mixer, replace the gear, grease and gasket, and reassemble the mixer.

Is there any adjustment for the gear drive sprocket that meshes with the worm drive? my gear is not engaging any more

If your drive gear is not meshing with the worm gear it is because it is worn out. You'll need to replace it post haste. The part number is 41A2817 and is available at Sears or any good door opener service company.

The Kitchenaid mixer stops and the motor just whirls without moving the paddle. This happened today when I was making dough. I seemed like the load was too much for it, but I have made this recipe many...

Hi VILLAGEFS, I’m sorry to hear about your 12 year old KA mixer not working. From the symptoms described, your mixer has experienced a catastrophic transmission failure; “like a gear is stripped…” Your particular KA model has a plastic gear designed to fail instead of the whole mixer ‘going up in smoke’. With this ‘fail-safe’ gear stripped your electric motor continues to ‘whirl’, but the power is not being transferred to the planetary and agitator shaft.
The good news is that this can be fixed quite easily (OK, maybe with a little effort) by yourself, if you are a DITY type person, feel adventurous, and your mixer is not under warranty (which it is not). Make sure you have the Parts List manual on hand. If you're lacking one, you can download a PDF version from the KA website at: http://www.kitchenaid.com/flash.cmd?/#/page/home.
Click on Customer Care>Locate Manuals& Guides> then enter the visitor type “Consumer and enter the 6 character model number, in this case K45SSW, and then select the file under Parts List (1) K45SSWH0.pdf (341.41 KB) ( Still check to see it matches your mixer).
Although not providing step by step instructions, the Parts List manual provides an exploded view of the various component assemblies allowing you to see how the mixer all fits together. It is helpful for the disassembly, troubleshooting, and reassembly of your mixer.
Turn to pages 4 & 5, titled “Case, Gearing and Planetary Unit”, and locate Illus. No. 38, Worm Gear Bracket & Gear, including Illus. No. 8, Worm Gear. After clearing all the grease away, you will probably find the worm gear stripped. You can order a replacement part and install it yourself. Do not use the old grease as it will be contaminated with debris from the stripped gear and ‘gum up the works’ if you try to reuse it.
While you’ve got your mixer this far apart you can check for any other unseemly wear and tear on the on the other gears and components. Besides a replacement worm gear, and grease you might consider replacing the gasket, too. You should use a food-grade grease that you can order online (although I’ve seen automotive bearing grease used, too – your call).
As far as parts go, here are five potential vendors in no particular order: RepairClinic.com; mendingshed.com; searspartsdirect.com; partstore.com; and Grainger.com (for grease). Prices can vary widely between vendors, so do some comparison shopping.
Finally, here are some links to several excellent websites that detail the disassembling/greasing and reassembly of a KA Mixer.
Between these three websites and their excellent pictures and descriptions and your Parts List manual, you should now be able to completely disassemble, fix/replace your stripped worm gear, and reassemble your mixer.
If you feel this repair is beyond your capability, then I would seek out a local small appliance repair shop in your area. KA Customer Care can give you names of local KA authorized repair shops in your area, but you can also do an online search to supplement what KA may provide you. Call to explain your circumstances and find out their hourly rate and get an estimate of what they think it would cost to repair your mixer. Also, always obtain three or more estimates – do some comparison shopping. Good luck, I hope this helps. Howard, Burke, VA

Toshiba estudio 3511 keeps giving error c360. I've checked the charger and the gears are messed with drive motor. Motor turns initially but gets to stopping point and gives error. Is there a charger...

At our repair shop we have begun to put a small (1/8" or so) washer in between the frame and the bracket the worm gear is attached to when we get this error intermittently. It seems to pull that worm gear closer to the main charge cleaner gear to give it better meshing. Hopefully this helps you!

Craftsman 1/2 hp garage door opener, model 139.53970SRT, 8-99 Was working fine, then the plastic drive gear got stripped. I replaced the worm and drive gears and all works great mechanically, except...

Make sure you put the black cup back on the end of the motor shaft and that it is pressed all the way on. Make sure the RPM sensor is plugged in. If neither of these are the issue, then you probably did not have the motor shaft pushed all the way back when you tightened the coupler after replacing the worm gear. Loosen that coupler up and from the front of the motor (opposite end in which the coupler is on) push the shaft back as far as it will go. Hold it there while you tighten the coupler back up and then try it.
