How do i rebuild a transmission that is not moving forward

First check the fluid to see if it has enough in it.
To overhaul a transmission you'll need some reference material. Check online for transmission overhaul manuals for your vehicle. You can even get the transmission overhaul DVD's which provide a lot of detail.

My honda fit takes off slow

Is it automatic or Manual transmission?
If it is an Automatic Transmission, that may be a concern on the computer box for the transmission or the clutch lining or ATF.

If it is a manual transmission, try looking into the friction disc or the clutch lining.

I have a 99 gmc sonoma that won't go into gear and there is no presure on the clutch pedal it goes straight to the floor but the fluid level is still on full and the fluid has some black looking gunk...

It is confirmed that the clutch hydraulics has faulted. Since there is no clutch the gear links are not engaged. Possible that the master cylinder has failed, possible a leak in the system.
You will need to overhaul this section and the pedal will respond.
Also check on the transmission fluid and the gear settings.

Looking for a manual on general overhaul procedures for an old 1979 Webster dual piston air compressor. One piston gets very hot and compressor is quite noisy (sounds like piston slap maybe?).

I have an old De vilbiss twin cylinder air compressor that got noisy. Pulled the head off and found a lot of dirt piled up on one piston (the unit had a very primitive air filter for many years). Scraped the piston clean and washed out the intake passages. Replaced the old filter with an automotive application filter--the compressor sounds like new again. May you have similar good fortune!

Transmission overhauled, however, band overadjusted

Bands are not adjustable. Why do you think it's a band issue? The band only comes on during manual second gear, not second gear while in drive. It sounds like a check ball was inadvertently left out of the valve body during reassembly.

Automatic or manual transmission?

Automatic= check your fluid. If its low, add appropriate trans fluid.(check owners manual)

If its not low, last ditch might be to add "Trans X". this is a product which can restore enough life to the belts to operate for a bit more. But usually, this is the first sign of the tranny going out.

If its a manual transmission= game over.
