Question about Cell Phones

I have a samsung omnia i910 with verizon wireless. I already have to pay for a data package on the phone, and they want almost as much more to use it to tether or wifi to my laptop. Isn't there any other way to get the internet besides going broke?

I need to figure out how to get internet from my samsung omnia i910 through verizon without having to tack another $50+ to my bill. I'm trying to raise three kids while their dad isn't paying child support and I'm on worker's com at 500 per month. I am already stretching it to have the data package they say I have include because of my model phone

You don't need a verizon data plan because this phone has wifi built into it meaning you can receive internet from any hotspot or home wireless router. Here is the information that I found on the Verizon Wireless page: With Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g) connectivity, the Omnia™ lets you seamlessly move between your corporate WLAN, home WLAN and local Hot Spot.

If i understand you correctly , i think you want a way to connect your OMNIA to your laptop to get internet on the laptop .
to connect your OMNIA to the laptop , you need the LG PC suite for that .
PC suite is a software that comes inside the CD first time when you bought your OMNIA . IF you don't have the CD , then you can download the software from here : www.lge.com

good luck .

Hello, Missy.

I think back years ago for what I paid for full landline phone service, dial-up for Internet, limited cell service and cable service.

Even though it feels like a lot of $$$, these days, I am getting so much more for my $$$ (not to say that it's inexpensive).

I have Verizon service, also and have the "works" with my Blackberry, including data and VZNavigator. But, I have dropped my landline service (really don't need it anymore) and do have cable service (I use Comcast) and Verizon DSL.

Altogether, I think I'm paying about the same as years ago with higher technology, portability and convenience.

My advice to you is this: really evaluate what you need, rather than what you want. Compare providers side by side with your needs in mind.

Hope this helps.

    Oh ...

I'd suggest selling your Samsung phone and getting another (if you just bought it), since you don't need the data package. Or, buy another phone even if you can't sell the other yet, since you'll be paying an extra $50 / month for 2 years ($50 * 24 = $1200), if you have a 2-year plan ! Find out from Verizon if you're penalized for switching phones, but it still would be worth it.

HOW TO : Samsung Omnia (i910) hard reset

Hard Reset - Samsung Omnia (i910)

A hard reset is the last resort for troubleshooting. This reset will erase all data and restore preferences to factory default specifications. Performing a hard reset is only recommended when the existing data has been backed up or is unwanted.

To prevent the loss of encrypted data, refer to Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 944102 for additional assistance.
If the preferred method is not available, there is an alternate Method.

Preferred Method
  1. From the Today screen, tap Start > Settings.
  2. From the System tab, tap Hard Reset.
  3. From the Memory tab, tap Clear all data.
  4. Tap Yes.
  5. Tap the QWERTY keyboard icon at the bottom bar, enter the device lock code (the default code is the last 4 digits of the mobile number) then tap Yes.

    Alternate method
  6. Press and hold the Send key and the End key.
  7. While holding down the keys, use the stylus to gently press and release the reset button.
Continue to hold down the keys until the Format screen is displayed.
  8. Press the Send key to choose Format.
Guys pls rate me if this is helpful at all.

OMNIA GPS

Hi it all depends on the Navigation software you are using. If you want to use googlemaps hen it should work as it is out of the box. The same goes for Route66. For Tomtom you will need another program like GPSgate that deals with the satellite locks (Tomtom does not properly deal with the Omnias internal GPS)

The is much discussion and information here:-

http://www.modaco.com/content/i900-omnia-http-omnia-modaco-com/272535/omnia-gps/

but check the other posts in the forum as there is alot of info on GPS use here.
