Question about GE Refrigerators
Usually a cold weather issue.
If the machine is getting light service, then that can add somewhat to the problem.
The issue here is how much the machine runs per day,or more important, how much time it's off.
When it runs less because of cool dry conditions, the freezer will run less. Ice cream needs colder temps than other items.
One step that can help, is placing it on the lowest part of the freezer.
As far a food freezing only on the bottom of the fresh food section,
The longer off times contribute to that. Cold air, on the off cycle drift from the freezer compartment thru the returns into the bottom of the fridge section, which can cause that problem.
This is all based on the design of the machine, which has one compressor and one fan circulating motor.
Hate to sound corny, but, if you find a house with 7 kids and a stay at home Mom, who cooks all the meals, the door openings are high enough that this problem can't occur.
