Don't even try this if you are not a trained HVAC person. Pay to have it professionally checked. Don't mess with carbon monoxide. There are several tests that can be done. But has to be by an experienced tech.

Hope this helps.

After 18 years of service, it is not cost effective to just replace the heat exchanger. Go the complete replacement route. There may be a utility company incentive to do it.

Unfortunately that means there's a hole in the heat exchanger, particularly in that cell of it. When the main blower comes on the air is pushed into the heat exchanger, causing the flame rollout. A heat exchanger crack or blowout is usually what condemns a furnace for good. Goodmans however, have a lifetime warranty on their heat exchangers, so you'll probably be able to find someone to replace it pretty cheap, or do it yourself for free.

Did the tech check to see that the heat exchanger does not have a hole of a crack in it...I have seen this and it is more common than you think....Make sure you get to the bottom of this as there is the danger of carbon monoxide poisoning...I would suggest to not use furnace till you figure it out

Rollout switch continues to trip

If you have a cracked heat exchanger this will cause the flames to rollout and trip this switch. Its meant to stop the furnace from running and putting carbon monoxide in your home. Watch the furnace as it tries to light if when the gas valve opens and flame is established it should go into the tubes heat the heat exchanger and then your main blower motor will come on. When your main blower comes on is usually when you see the flames rollout and trip that switch. If this happens you can either buy a heat exchanger or new furnace if its a older unit Obama still has that awesome tax credit til 12-31-2010.

It may help if you increased the blower speed. It sounds like you have a restriction in either the return air duct or in the heat exchanger. Does it help to open the blower door panel. If so, you have confirmed a restriction. How do the burners look? Are they good and blue or yellow? Are the correct orifices being used for the type of gas? I know I am asking more questions than you, but it may help us with the answers. Good luck to you Wade.

I have a goodman gmnt 100 b furnace 2 stage when the gave valve turns on and floods the heat exchanger with flame then the squirl cage fan turns on and i loose the the flame

If you are getting flame distortion when the blower comes on it usually means a cracked heat exchanger which can lead to carbon monoxide, get your furnace checked by a qualified tech..

My goodman gaspack has had two incidents of cracked heat exchangerS within 18 months apart. Could something be cAUSING THIS TO HAPPEN?

Things to watch for when your heat exchanger is cracking....
1.Always kee the filter clean
2.Make sure the return air vents are clean and clear of obstructions
3.Your furnace could be Oversized for your house thereby running too hot.
4.The furnace can be "Overfired" basically burniing more gas and running hotter than it's supposed to be
5.It's always best to have your furnace taking fresh air for combustion from outside...basically you should have 2 pipes on your furnace ..one for Air Intake and the other for Exhaust
6.Sometimes some furnaces have a Bad Design and are prone to failure...Some Goodman have "Rings" basically large rivets that pop...this was a bad design however all the suggestions above should help but may not eliminate your problem
