Question about Amana ARB2557CW / ARB2557CB / ARB2557CC Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

1 Answer

I have an Amana ARB2557CC refrigerator. It is 7 years old and I just recently changed the H2O filter as I do almost every 9 months. Since changing the filter the ice maker has stopped functioning. I am expecting an air blockage or something like that. Any ideas of where to look for the problem? Dave Prosser Fairport, NY 585-223-7739

    Good morning,
I have already done the easy checks you suggested other than disconnecting the water line. I have a cold water source in the refrigerator and this has been working fine. I did have air in that line following changing the filter. And I didn't get to run water after the filter change until about an hour after. The wife distracted those efforts.I am suspecting a problem somewhere between the filter and the ice maker. Is there a way to run water from that line?

Thanks Rylee. Since the water flows out the water feed freely as it had before changing the filter, I will trace the line inside the base of the refrig to the ice maker valve and try to identify whether that is opening or possibly stuck. The temp of the refrig and Freezer are 38 and 2 respectively so I suspect as you do that the water line is the problem.
    Thanks again,
    -Dave-

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Check to see whether the ice maker has been turned off. Here's how to check. Look for a wire along the right side of the ice maker that looks a bit like a coat hanger. If this wire is in the raised position, the ice maker is turned off. On some units you simply lower the wire to the down position to turn the ice maker on. On others, you lower a small red plastic lever to lower the wire. If the wire is in the proper position check the freezer temperature, it should be between 0-8 degrees Fahrenheit. If it is warmer than 10-12 degrees, the ice maker may not produce any ice. Check your door seals and thermostat, repair/replace as necessary. Also, check the water line attached to the back of the refrigerator for good water flow. To do that, first turn off the water supply valve. Then remove the water line from the back of the refrigerator. Next, place the water line into a bucket and momentarily turn the water valve back on to test the flow. If the flow is poor, you need to repair, clean, or replace the tubing or the shut-off valve that supplies the water. If the flow is good, you may have to replace the water inlet valve.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks

Thanks for your reply Dave. As I said to check the water supply first turn off the water supply valve. Amana green water filter light off

If your machine is only 2 months old and wasn't used when you bought it call the number on the label that has the model and serial number on it that is located either inside the refridgerator on the upper wall somewhere or somewhere on the frame. Being that whirlpool now owns Maytag, which encompasses Amana, you have a one year manufacturer warranty where parts and labor are both covered free of cost.

The h2o light on display had no colour then turned blue now gone red fridge only 7 months old but have lost manual

The filter/water system is designed to change colors after 6 calendar months, the system does not count the flow of water (unless you have the smart valve unit that measures water). Either way, you can either reset the filter by holding the filter button for 5-10 seconds or replace the filter and hold the filter button then.
Good luck

Bad taste or odor from ice cubes most likely a filter problem. If filter has not been changed for at least 6 months, that is where I would start.

The problem is hard water. Go to www.dishwasherfilter.com and get their new product. It filters the water and takes out the hard minerals that cause spots and clog dishwashers. It is very affordable and has a money back guarantee.

Refrigerator is freezing food AND broken ice container part.

Just lower it one number at a time , wait 24 hrs each time you re set it until you reach the right temp. 34-40 deg.

Your filter light has not came on most likely because it has not had the time to. You do not need to replace your filter every six months. This is a safe guesstamate from the manufacture , it depends on water quality and use of water , some filters will go years and years , the filter indicator does not even know if the filter is bad.
When you notice water pressure slowing when dispensing from the door you know the filter needs replaced.
Hope this gets you out of that service fee. This should FIX IT!
If you have any questions let me know.

Dirty pieces of ''onionskin'' in water after changing water filt

Same problem in my 1 year old Maytag side-by-side. I let the stuff it sit in a cup for about 5-7 days, and it turned into a fuzzy mess of mold. Obviously a problem. However, Maytag WILL NOT admit a problem. Home Depot would not override Maytag's decisions. They did arrange for an appliance repair company to replace internal tubes, but after about a month of drinking it again, (WITH A NEW $35 FILTER) I found lots of new MOLD last night. Filled a pitcher a couple of times to find six "onion-like" pieces. This has been an ordeal of about 9 months. My family has had unusual illness (colds, flus, stomach problems) for the past 9 months. I am about to take it to the city dump.
