Garmin Nuvi 260W will not boot following software upgrade.
I downloaded the newest s/w for this unit yesterday and it worked fine while connected to the PC. It worked after I disconnected the USB cable and allowed me to access all screens. I shut it down, but this morning it would not come up at all and the battery is charged. Connecting to PC yields nothing where before it would display the PC connection.

've looked for free map upgrades for my Garmin and could not find anything. I did find a lifetime map upgrade deal for around $75. It allows you unlimited upgrades for as long as you own the GPS. Go to the garmin site and search NUMaps. Go to the Garmin web site & register and that will allow you to upgrade the maps to current. You will also need to use a USB cable and install the software for your Garmin before you can do so.
Hello.
You can go to mygarmin.com or garmin.com
. You have to register. It is for FREE. Then, you can update your GPS. You can also download maps by just following the screen
instructions.
You can also find all the software/drivers you need there.

If the device does not power on it could be a result of a extremely low
battery. Please ensure that the device is receiving a charge while it is
connected to the vehicle power cable. If the battery is receiving power from
the vehicle power cable then the battery icon (located next to the time) would
disappear from the Main Menu.
If the unit does not power on while attached to the vehicle power cable
please follow steps from below to perform a soft reset:
Connect the device to an
external power source1
Slide and hold the power key
to the on position for 15 seconds
The device should power on.Notes:
Preferably the vehicle
power cable or a USB cable from a computer
Some of the older Nuvi
200 series will have a reset button on the bottom of the device. It can be
found on the bottom of the device on the same sticker that the serial
number is printed on.
If
your GPS unit powers down before it can fully boot up, the battery will
need to be charged. Please charge the unit with the vehicle power
cable or on a computer for at least three hours. After charging the unit,
it should power on and function normally. If the unit will not charge in
the vehicle, check the fuse in the power cable for the unit and
the power outlet in the vehicle.
Hi, Take a look at this site, http://www.garmin.be/missing.html
Download and unzip the software, plug your garmin in the USB and start
the updater.exe program. It gets you started again. Later on you can
use the Webupdater to get possible newer software.. It worked for me and my Zumo550 Goodluck Auke
Update with the newest software:
