HP ScanJet 5590 automatic feeder not working

My NEW HP ScanJet 5590 powers on. I have a 5 pg document that I have in the automatic feeder. It powers up, starts to go, sucks in the first page half way, then stops. The display does not say anything. The message says SCANNING on my PC but it never scans. You have to lift the lid and take the paper out. This continues. It will never scan the document correctly. I had this problem with my last one and they said it just needed replaced. I have not had this one two months and scanned 10 pages of things. Any suggestions? I have restarted my machine, reinstalled software, unplugged and powered down the scanner, tried another document and nothing works. There are no staples or creases in the document either.

My feeder is not working at all. If I put a document in the feeder, it just scans the blank glass, the feeder isn't making any noise or motion at all. This is a "new" scanner to me (belongs to my boss) and they say it always worked before but not at all since plugging it into my computer.

Have you tried scanning in the flat bed mode? Does it scan okay? If the image is good, then there is no problem with scan module. Check your page settings. If the page size selected for scanning is smaller than actual size, there can be some peoblems. Try and scan with max size. Check if the sensors are dust/paper free. A small piece of paper (The small round discarded piece from Computer stationery) in the paper sensor can create trouble.

The automatic document feeder keeps grabbing the paper on one side and therefore creasing the paper so that it does not go through

Lift up on the ADF roller cover and look for a piece of paper. Remove the blue guide bar and the end where the paper flips under. If you can't find paper put the blue bar back and close the ADF (automatic document fee) lid. Lift up the flatbed scanner cover and look at the far left side to see a piece of obstruction. Clear that and try making a copy.

ADF

1- reinstall drivers

2- Use the WIA driver for Windows OpSys

3- Pay close attention to options in dialog box. Select ADF or Document Feeder as an option

4- Depending on the OCR application [personally I prefer PaperPort] the imaging process can be very eaasy or somewhat difficult
